The 1j dies out around 6500 because of the stock cams.
Aftermarket cams can have the 1j revving well into 7k+ making power.
Even still, revving higher can land you in the sweet spot on the upshift.
I commonly rev my car to 7500-7700. The following gear hits nice. That doesn't really...
Mine's can still do reflashes IIRC, but the cost is so high, you could just buy a standalone instead. And you'd have to wait and send it to Japan and get it back.
Keep your eyes on ebay, me thinks. Soarer ECUs pop up every now and then. I've seen them before.
Modded ECU. Blitz, Mine's, etc.
Some are higher than others.
My Mine's is at around 7700. My last Stealth ECU, didn't have a limiter and I ran it up to 8k.
I don't know how easy modded soarer ECUs are to find though.
If you have a stock intake, I'd put that back on.
Anything stock that you still have, put it back on. If things don't look out of place, you'll be better off. The more obvious stuff they see, the more they're gonna poke around.
Save yourself the trip.
Or, go in somebody else's car and ask.
It's not about whether the car can pass smog or not. It can fart emissions of water and daisies and you'll still be in the same boat as everyone else.
If you had a 2J, it would be different.
