I had my tranny rebuilt, the guy asked me if I down shift to help stop. I said yes, he said, yeah, I can tell, your second gear is mushroomed from down shifting. I'm in neutral when I'm at a stop.

Personly I would start with engine cleaner It does a pretty nice job just to get most of the grease off, then if you want I'd try brake cleaner to get the harder gunk off ,but as I've said, ask to see if your machinist would hot tank it for ya, afterall you are doing bussinees with him...

Aligned an a 70? No..... but I was trying to illustrate that in a pinch you can do it my way as Poodles had said, just enough to get it to the shop. Does this not work for an a70?,... well I guess not.
