maybe your dad is scared that if you get the ins,car in your name,you wont be around anymore,hence,he'll be alone?

A muffler shop can tell you if the cat is shot. They'll basically put a hole in it and wiggle a welding rod around in it to see if there is any resistance,then weld the hole up if its good. I would possibly look upstream to see if anything could have made the cat go bad in the first place.
I like the look of the Challenger,as it uses styling cues of the origional.
Not the piece of crap Dodge imported from Mitsubishi that had a 4 banger in it.
The Charger is bigger disapointment as it has 4 doors and looks nothing like the origional.
I would replace it for the simple fact of knowing that the part is something I installed,not relying on the previous owners assurance that no one ever pissed in his tank.
Plus you get the satisfaction and joy of learning how easy it is to change!!!
That would be sweet.
Refine all the bumps on the origional and put in a trap door so you can access all the dam sockets and bolts that have fallen through the years.
