    GrimJack's rebuild

I am back at this thread once again to use these pictures as a reference. Grim, that is a hell of a job you did. I would not have imagined a new engine to be that...new looking. As I already told you in AIM, those pics are quite helpful! I once even used an attachment to verify with a...

    new pics from today

Well, at that time I did have a new mudflap, but I just needed to paint it and put it on. That pic was taken in Florida. I could not wait to get there and escape the winter of NY, so I took it less than 100% assembled. I am also missing the bumper lip as well--didn't have time to put that on...

    average cost of head work

I already estimated how much it would be to build a long block if the parts meet specs. http://supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8475 Just to rebuild the head assuming that meets specs and is not twisted...well let me give you some background info first. Guides don't seem to wear out...

    Running without an innercooler??

Well...of course a turbo compresses air. I think we all know that. I meant that the incoming air is heated more from being compressed than from passing through a hot turbocharger. I would think that most people would have understood me as well.

    Running without an innercooler??

Most of the heat that an intercooler removes is not from coming from the turbo, but from the air being compressed. When you compress air, you create heat. If you ever take a spray can that is under pressure and hold it upside down and spray it to release the pressure, the can will have frost...

    Rod Knock??

I think I read somewhere long ago that if you remove a spark plug wire to each cylinder and then stop hearing the sound from a particular cylinder, that would indicate where the knock is coming from...if you do indeed have a spun bearing.

Budget Rebuild What direction to go

Just for giggles, I typed up a realistic estimate of what it would cost me to build up my engine. I also did an estimate if someone were to buy it from where I left off. This is for the long block only and does not include belts, hoses, or anything else that you would want to change on the...

    Getting credit SUCKS

I was once turned down on a loan for my bike. I applied for a personal loan. At the time, I had two credit cards. They were giving me introductory rates. I took out cash on my cards, and paid them off quick before the introductory rates expired. I just thought that it was so weird that I...

Did a compression test today: gimme the bad news doc.

Right there you know that it’s most likely your lower end. When I change the oil on my motorcycle, if I get just a drop or two on the header, it will smoke more than you would probably imagine (considering it’s only a drop or two). Sometimes just a bit of oil can make smoke come out of the bike...

    new pics from today

Craig, that car reminds me so much of mine! My three year old nephew is such a fan of my Supra! He loves it and tells everyone about it. If I were to buy your car, it would freak him out because he is my helper with my car and knows how it is now. We pretend that he helps me, and so he goes...

    need some guidance

Here is some info for you on turbos and trims as well: http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/tech_center/turbo_tech102.html Basically, you wold have you CT26's compressor housing bored and then have a bigger compressor wheel in its place. It would need to be rebalanced by a shop that...

    Rod Knock Update

Thanks for sharing the cause of your problem. How low were you on oil? I have heard of a couple of guys that had rod knock who weren't low on oil,so I am always curious to hear why each case has occured and how rare it is to get a spun bearing without being low on oil. In case you need...

    7mge Rebuild Kit

If it were me, I would just buy the gaskets from from Champion Toyota, or at least the ones that I know would make a difference. For seals (cam seals, valve seals, rear main oil seal, front main oil seal, etc), I would definitely use Toyota ones. Many have said that Toyota gaskets are the...

HELP - Got a LOUD knock

From what I gather, if you take out the spark plug wire the cylinder with the knock, the sound would greatly decrease if it is indeed a spun bearing. (I am pretty sure I read that a couple of times, but I have no first hand experience wiht it.) Bigdough666, if I am not mistaken, you had...

    Highest/Safest possible Octane?

You don't want to do it like that. You want to go the lowest safest you can go with. Higher octane gas is not as combustable as lower octane gas. Going with something too high, would be unnecessarily over kill. You go higher octane than what the manual calls for if you have a high...

    What's your opinion?

Hello back at you. As far as what car would beat which in a show: that is like asking if a brunette can beat a blonde in a beauty pageant. All depends on too many factors that I won’t even have time to list half, but some depend on who the judge/s is/are, how each is modified, if the judges...

Need Turbo tail wing ? Here.

Experience from elsewhere, but it may be relevant here: When I used to paint and repair bikes (did that briefly for others), I always found that the stock panels fit much, much better than the aftermarket stuff. I just sort of assumed that the same would hold true to aftermarket car parts...

    What's your opinion?

If that is what I think it is--the overflow hose from the coolant reservoir--it could be used to see if there is a BHG leak between a cylinder and a water jacket. The combustion pressure would seep into the water jacket and push the coolant out of the reservoir tank and into the soda bottle.
