Try bleeding your clutch hydraulic system first before any purchase? Check for fluid leaks below your clutch pedal also.

you didnt happen to have had the reverse switch pulled off lately have you? I had the same situation, and found that the wires at the back up switch was shorted to each other. Fixed that and corrected the problem. You can try checking that

Maybe you might have too much wahsers, try putting four washers, see what happens. It might be hitting fuel cut, though you shuold be able to tell if you did.

I've had situations like that before, and it's always been that there's an air pocket in your cooling system. I'd probably try to bleed your cooling system for any possible air pockets.
