I had the same thing happen with mine after my bhg, and I've heard alot of other people having that happen. It will more than likely stop after you drive it for a few miles.

The hesitation could be any number of things, vacuum leak, boost leak, incorrect ignition timing, fouled injectors, or a clogged fuel filter. I'm not sure about the overheating, unless your thermostat is locked shut.

My 90t was doing the same thing, it turned out to be the ignition timing. Just because toyota set the timing doesnt mean it was done right, re-check it.

The timing is very easy to check/adjust, the TSRM has a few pages on how to do it. It might also be a good idea to go ahead and buy a timing light, they dont cost much and with an old car like the mk3, it will be a useful tool to have around.

Another thing to check is your ignition timing, if that is off, the car will stumble under acceleration.

You also need to make sure the engine is on the compression stroke when you set the cps.

But will they work properly with a stock fuel system?

I was thinking about upgrading my injectors, but I have a few questions 1) Are they a direct replacement, or is there some modification needed. 2) Will they work with a stock fuel system or would I need some more electronics? I dont know which brand I'll be using, so any suggestion or advice...

You could also just skip all the head work and just buy a rebuilt head, all the work is done for you. Of course everything would be stock, so if you're looking to upgrade, do it yourself.

Check the fuel pressure regulator, if it is defective it could be allowing too much fuel to the injectors.

For the price of that cat back, you could go to a local shop and have your entire exhaust system replaced. Mine cost $425 and I have 3" pipe from the turbo to the tips, downpipe, high flow cat, and a dynaflow muffler.

Start by checking your ISC valve, the TSRM has a page on that. If that is not the problem, check your fuel system and make sure the injectors are getting gas.

Check all of your ground wires, especially the ones located under the intake manifold. When I did my bhg repair, I forgot to tighten the grounds under the intake, it took me a week before I finally figured out why it wouldnt start. :icon_redf

When you set the timing, did you make sure that it was on the compression stroke?
