you don't need to take the shifter appart...just remove the bolts from the boot and the bolts that hold it into the trans...

You will hear air escape past the rubber bushings around the injectors....

I'd also recomend hoseing down your intake with carb cleaner to see if you have a vac leak considering you used the old gasket....a vac leak will cause the issues you describe... And milling a head without removeing the injectors is crazy...that's a dirty process with really fine aluminum...
