The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Well I haven't touched the supra in about 2 weeks since I knew its next step was going to be a long and painful one(Not to mention expensive). I did give the daily a bit of love though and got her some new shoes: I then finally got around last night to compression testing the supra. I will...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Guys this is now my 4th 7m(1 of them still running to this day 3 years later). I understand that I COULD go with an OEM HG and probably be ok for a while at these power levels(However I think the block and head should be machined). There are just small things all over the engine that need to be...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Your knowledge knows no bounds. I actually found the dash in a picknpull yard and just cleaned it thoroughly. As far as the 2j vs 7m, I never intended the keep the 7m long as I know how they are if they are not babied or built, and I did not plan to do either. Yes some 7mgtes are reliable...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

I will keep the stock ones just as spares. I have been driving and enjoying the car a lot the last few weeks since CA doesn't seem to want to have a winter: But of course, right on fucking cue, the 7m gave out: Gonna compression test tomorrow to be sure, but with the smoke and coolant...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Finally got plates for the car so I have been driving the car on and off for a few weeks now. The steering is a bit loose and the suspension is blown so I am not daily driving it yet(though I could) however I just drove her 10 miles to and from a meet and she drove perfectly! Only real issue...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Yea the car is registered in a county in CA that only requires smog on change of title, so unless I sell it I will never need to smog it again

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Alright so decent sized update. After flushing the fluid and just driving the car the transmission is working. I wont say that its perfect, but it works just fine and only is hesitant on shifting when its cold. I put the hood on the car and continued to drive it around slowly fixing everything...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Only a 5mm shim. Idle pressure is around 30 when cold and down near 10 when hot. Well luckily the car seems to be fixing itself haha. After flushing the fluid the trans is now starting to act normal and I am not having any slipping issues. I have driven about 10 miles around the neighborhood...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Alright, so I get home today and start the car to let it warm up and check everything and sure as shit it goes in gear and moves just fine. Test it in the garage going back and forth for a while and the get up the nerve to go take it around the neighborhood. Everything goes great, even did a...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Engine is running and starting perfectly, however even after adjusting the shift linkage the trans is still not moving. Makes me think the converter is not locking, however its strange that it will sometimes move perfectly, and revving does not affect anything. Also have a leak coming out of the...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Its alivveee. Car started pretty easy without much fuss. No CEL, no smoke(besides the exhaust burn my handprints off lol), and no leaks, however I have an intermittent rattling noise coming from somewhere down near the trans. Very happy about the engine being strong, however now the trans is not...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

At the end of the day all I need is for this engine to pass smog, as long as it does that it will be worth the time and money I have put into it. Luckily I only need to smog my vehicles once on the change of title and then they never have to see a smog station again. "Smogging" is about $1,000...

Alright, been a while since I updated this so I guess its time to get it up to speed. Ill start where I left off on the last post. I got the car flipped around the next day and stuck the nose out of the garage to get pressure washed. Before: After: While she was drying and her ass...

Cxracing Ct26 bolt-on Turbo on EBay - Bad Idea??

Agree with above^. People act as if Ebay is a manufacturing company. There are hundreds of turbo manufacturers that use eBay to sell items and I know of quite a few people that have been running "ebay turbos" and have been for years. And I am not talking about 10psi while driving like a...

My journey with my '91 Sunroof.

Looks like a great build. I agree however with the above post, generally after a fresh rebuild like that you shouldn't push the car too hard for at least the first 1000 miles.
