The parking brake may be out of adjustment (at the handle). Also, the parking brake is separate from the caliper. It is a drum-style brake inside of the rear rotors. Also, your shoes could be worn to the point warranting new ones.
Sam, just get a new(er) sensor. If not from the dealer, then from someone parting out a car. Mine crapped on me, I replaced it with one from a junkyard, and I haven't had the light turn on unless a bulb actually went out.

Driftmotion sells the speedometer cables. I got mine from there, good price too. ~92 + ship for longer cable, shorter cable depends on if it's auto or manual.
It's going to be a pain to replace, but well worth it.
+1. Had to replace a transmission in a Civic in class, used an engine brace like the one pictured (but this was sturdy/made of steel). It mounted on the strut towers, it was held like that for a few weeks.
