Anyone going to GLD today? I'll be there, but in my dad's Mazda. I don't feel safe driving my car, some of the bolts holding the egr cooler plate to the back of the head are loose, and I hate to say that some are actually missing all together...
Okay so I tried this... 2 issues.
1: don't have a low profile enough jack
2: when loosening the trans mount to support bracket bolts, one of them sheered off. so I gave up on that.
Number 2 really discourages me from when I need to pull my entire drivetrain...
the rattling sound I heard was for sure a bolt or bolts holding down the EGR cooler cover. The rattling is being caused by the exhaust leak, which was caused by the bolts backing out
lol, I know. Split a room, 40 a night per person :naughty:
I'll probably meet you guys next time I'm up in Minnesota, should be end of September :biglaugh:
I know all of this already. I'm saying that I have a usdm 7m-gte disassembled in my garage waiting for gaskets and helicoils.
I do not plan on keeping my 7m-ge in the car for the long run.
You can rebuild the 7M properly for a grand or more under what it would cost to buy the JZ engine and rebuild it the right way. 7M is more cost efficient.
The 7M can be just as reliable as a JZ engine, but it depends on how well the owner takes care of the car, and the tune.
I'm not choosing...
I don't plan on keeping this engine in the car much longer. The engine has 237K miles on it. The valve stems leak, low compression, leaking rear main seal.
I meant super torque the bolts down as a temporary fix until I can get the engine back together. I'm just waiting on gaskets and helicoils.
Well I let the engine get up to operating temps and revved it up, exhaust was blowing from out behind the head. That's why I assume EGR cooler gasket. It would suck because I'd have to pull the engine to get at it... unless I can just torque the piss out of the bolts holding the plate on
