U said u bought the car yesterday so I'm assume u haven't changed any of the fluids or wires and sparkplugs I would start there and check all couplings and vaccum lines then gauge what kind of damage ur dealing with might jus need sum tlc....alsd make sure bolts are tight on the turbo

It could be any one of the problems posted but also check the coupling comin off the throttle body and all intercooling piping and couplings

My suggestion is to try to find a clean one structual wise and figure out if u want manual or auto, hartdtop or targa. With the transmission figured out it'll save u money with hardtop ot targa figured out it'll save ur ass from hurting from kickin urself for not gettin a targa. Other than that...

Damn that top bolt is hard as hell to get to think I'm going to have my wife slide under there and take it out she...
