On our Lemons cars we are constantly fighting the money battle to keep them under $500 so new springs are pretty much out of the question. Because of that, yes, I have cut my springs and they've worked fine but you have to do them correctly if you want to get away with it.
First things first...
The pistons on the existing engine? Not very, it will only spin about 1500 rpm max at rated hp.
I'm with one of the earlier posters, Waukesha, maybe an older Allis and most likely a compressor or genset power plant. It could really be any kind of stationary power unit though. Pumps, oil...
Just to be clear I'm making NO comments about Behr, I've never used it or know anyone that has so I can't comment on it. Thr Rustoleum, on the other hand, I have used myself and I'm not impressed.

An update on where we're at.....
I finished getting the cage in a few weeks ago and the car is in for paint at the moment. The cage is a halo design with a center bar in the halo and down the middle for a windshield bar. I prefer this design myself as I feel it gives the driver the best...
Cornwell is probably the best tool maker that nobody has ever heard of. They make great stuff and it's all made by them here in the US. I wish they had decent distribution out my way and I'd use them.

Neat idea.
I've always disliked the "Sport/Hard/Soft" etc. settings. How about instead of that have the front and rear adjustable with two knobs and have it show up on the LCD as a couple of bar graphs that shows front and rear settings and where it's at with respect to soft and firm instead...
Quick and easy quasi-Italian red sauce you can use for spaghetti or lasagna. Note I said quick and easy, not real and delicious, but it's not bad.
Cook the pasta. Boil the water first and add a pat of butter and a little salt, keeps the pasta from sticking together and/or getting slimy...
No, the air is metered at the AFM first thing in the intake tract. Any leak after that point when under boost is going to vent pressure to the atmosphere and NOT make it to the cylinders. The ECM will assume the amount going through the AFM is getting to the cylinders and put that much fuel...
What he said. Compare maintaining perfect alignment with 5 main saddles vs. 7 in a I6.
It's also not the machine shop trying to run the bill up, it's a warning from ARP saying that if you use their studs alignment should be checked and corrected if needed. Read the information included in...
No, it doesn't matter. It is in essence a simple switch for fuel.
Don't waste anymore time by guessing and running codes. Pull a plug and verify that you have fire. If you do, check to make sure you have fuel pressure and that your injectors are getting the signal to fire. Check your...
Back to basics time.
An engine needs 4 things to run.
Air
Fuel
Compression
Spark at the correct time
If you have all four it WILL at least try to run, perhaps not well, but it will try.
You're on the right track to checking the basics. You should run a compression test on any one cylinder...
I do need to correct something I said in a previous post. I mentioned that I thought it was a 1/2" NPT tap and my memory let me down, it's 3/8" NPT. I just got done plugging one on a race head I'm prepping.
The existing hole is just a bit small for the required 37/64" drill bit so you'll...
There is another way to deliver less oxygen and fuel in cruise...................
Less throttle activation and proper gearing. You cannot introduce a percentage of burned hydrocarbons into the intake stream and increase the BSFC of an engine. That engine, any engine, wants two things to...
As it has on every forum.
So what is "incorrect" about my post? You quoted the whole thing so it's difficult for me to respond to your statement.
The part where I asked if EGR would be on an engine if not for emission requirements? If you believe that to be incorrect you are mistaken...
Simple rhetorical question................
If not for emissions, would EGR be on US Cars?
Answer, no it wouldn't. It is an add on to get certain emissions lower. By itself, it does not increase performance or mileage over an engine optimally tuned to run without it.
Now having said...
That depends on what you can talk Judge Phil into. As I said, he knows cars and he knows BS. IF, let's say, you get "Joes Radiator Service" to give you a new radiator for nothing and "Joes" isan't on the side of the car as a sponsor or anything, he just wants to help out............Maybe that...
Yeah it does. I should probably explain the procedure.
The rules say that except for certain specific things that have to do with safety the car can't cost more than $500. That includes the price of the car. Now you can sell stuff off the car and that money can go to the fabrication so...
Thanks for the tips, I'll check those couplings and I do have T bolts (I'm a diesel mechanic) and can probably find more relatively cheap.
Cooling I'm debating. I need a radiator. I can get a stock replacement in brass for cheap. I have an excellent stock shroud, the two a/c fans that...
I have a couple of full sets of stock piping but I was really planning on some ghetto bent muffler tubing to minimize the connections. I read somewhere about someone that used PVC which in theory should work well with glued joints but a search turned up nothing about it. IOW, I'm open to...
