89 7MGTE | time machine restoration, "build".Highly motivated with no time or energy

Staying "upgraded stock". The upgrade on the turbo/lex/550 should be a good mate for the 3" full exhaust upgrade. My goal is to upgrade all up-gradable components while retaining stock configuration regardless of HP increase. I guess it will be safe to say that I'm looking for GT performance...

I though I post some pictures of a FEL-PRO "RA" tool I took today while at the machine shop picking up the block. Machinist says a good way to find out is to glide your nail and listen for sound. A guiro/rattling noise means block is not up to specs for MHG. No sound, then is good...

Ok.. thanks to all for advice given. Will get the 2.0mm MHG, Spec Clutch and Walbro or AEM or Aromotive FP. Tomorrow will continue with the GE removal from rust free shell if not too humid (it was crazy humid today here in Miami). Also, will search the classifieds and start looking for a set...

Surface turned out to be very good (RA around 30). Got a larger caliper and got 198.00 mm on block. Keep getting mixed readings on head so I will just go with machinist #s of 115.93mm. As I see it, I have two options on HG. Either Cometic (0.075 inch = 1.90 mm) or Titan 2.0 mm (please...

This much "oil" came out of the GE today: Took off glove compartment, computers, fan, radiator & hoses, intake, canister, drained fluids (transmission, coolant & engine. Still need to drain PS). Then it got dark and damn mosquitoes were having a blast at my expense.

Update. Sent family to Orlando for a week so I could have some peace and freedom as they already started bitching about their time share. +90 degrees here in Sunny/Humid Miami. Had to install a trap on work area. Now going to get a 12 pack, come back and let the fun and swearing start.

Pulling 7MGE out today and see how that goes. Tomorrow, will try to find a Machine Shop capable of doing the "RA" and possible re-surfacing while I wait (really against taking more metal off. Already feel I over did it trying to get rid of water passage's cavities). On the clutch. Do I have to...

Will see about having the surface RA checked. I just don't want to machine it any deeper than what already is. If I could find a composite that could work with current conditions, I will definitively jump on it as I wont be abusing/racing this car (thread title reads "time machine"). Another...

Have to get a larger caliper. The one I have only goes as far as 154.5mm and therefore, I cannot measure up to the main bearing saddle, but according to my before and after measurement calculations, about 1mm was taken off the block. Anyways, measured again on daylight since 116.95mm doesn't...

Ok... then what size HG should I get??? I had already purchased OEM HG bolts as per my plans on keeping it stock and as stated before, I "might" follow Supraguy@aol on 57 trim lex/550 as long as I don't have to use AFR management. Should I get the ARP studs? Got a refund from Amazon for the...

It feels really smooth to the touch. If I glide a fingernail over it, there is no gap felt.

They are listing 4 different HG for the MKIII. 3 of them are described as "Metal HG". I guess I will have to call and find out. (See product screenshot below)

What about Titan Motorsports composite HG? They have a 1.4mm and a 2.00mm. Note: Keep in mind that at most, I will probably go for DM's ct26 57 trim turbo upgrade with the LEX housing/550cc http://www.titanmotorsports.com/timohegafor7.html Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

Getting a full refund + prepaid return shipping label from Amazon on the Clutch after 6 months of purchase (What a great company to do business with). Thanks to Poodles for noticing the mismatch. I've been buying parts for almost two years now and I would't be surprised if some of the other...

Hmmm, Will ask the shop tomorrow about that. Is there any special head the need to use? Login in to Amazon now and see about the Clutch. My vehicles are saved on my profile and the auto fitment check is done on every purchase. Found it. Will return it because not as described. Now the...

As long as the upgrades are plug and play, I'm all for it. The Valeo OEM clutch kit was around $150.00 and most likely I'll be able to exchange it or re-sell it if it gets to that point. Just opened for the second time today to take the picture. The 1st time it was opened was on delivery day...

I didn't want go any lower to completely remove all erosion because of the gasket thickness issue and I don't think this particular shop (B & P in Opa-Locka Blvd, Miami) has the capability of making it any smoother than what it is (see the picture #3. That machine is as old as the engine). There...

BEFORE AFTER There are still tiny bits of erosion on some water passage edges, but they explained that the gasket was cleared on those remaining spots and it was safe to stop milling at this point. Before taking the block to the shop, measurement was 146.11mm and...

89 7MGTE | time machine restoration, "build".Highly motivated with no time or energy

Trip to Machine Shop. Upon inspection, they told me that the water passage's erosion was too deep and most likely was caused by poor block grounding resulting in electrolysis. They agreed to do it only at my own risk and I accepted and I was allowed to oversee the process and decide when to...
