You took time to repair the issue and not blow them impressive. I have a coworker on his 3rd set on a 1j and he can't figure why. I'm guessing lack of boost gauge and sticking open arc blowoff. Missing fins every time. But what do I know.
I know the difference ij. Just seeing if any one has a clue and if they can give the Op sum knowledge about a compound setup instead of it's a waste of time or your better off going big single. To much disinformation it can be done it's just expensive, complicated or everybody would have one...
If parrell why does it have an air by pass valve. Have you looked at a Toyota service manual for the operation of this setup. Or find out why there are not that many boost controllers that can correctly operate with this setup?
Sequential is it not using a small turbo until the bigger turbo is spooled? Better curve not all at once.

1j is a true twin one fails you have nothing.
Heat soak happens when the car is parked wrap will do nothing for it. Happens over time about 6-7 months daily driving in Indiana. Allmost every time during summer or just after. Ceramicoat down pipe, exhaust side of turbo, and manifold will help under hood temps but still melts plastic...
Gone through 2 with heat shields to much heat soak after extended driving 1 way valve made of a plastic cap, rubber flapper, and an aluminum base. whistle is plastic plated with chrome it melts and distorts. My first V.2 was an eBay second V.3 was from an hks dealer both had the same failure...
See if the whistle insert is melted if so dimantle your bov and check the small plastic 1 way valve inside the diafram housing. If heat is an issue or it is mounted above your turbo your hks bov is dead. V.2 & V.3 don't like heat.
Why is it so hard to do simple diag yet so easy to guess? Compression test easy, Leak-down test easy, Coolant pressure test easy. Unless your afraid of the truth. Ah just throw some parts at it until your broke then blame the car and sell it.
plug and play..... I just cant remember who said that. More work less typing.
You now have 3 days to finish and 1 week to debug. I may win this bet yet.
