HELP!!! Engine Won't Start After Camshaft Removal

As it said above, my car won't start or it will stumble and die. I removed the cams to replace valve bucket shims. The timing belt seems to be correct. The cam marks line up perfectly with the crank 0 mark. I don't see any vacuum lines unhooked or broken wires. There are two areas I can...

    Tool Needed in Central IL

I must have been thinking of a different engine...it was super easy to get to the timing cover bolts! Cams are out...it was definitely easier this way since I need 13 new shims! Gonna go get them tomorrow morning. Hopefully the Yamaha dealer has them.

    Tool Needed in Central IL

Very true, but it makes it much easier for me to get to the timing cover bolts. If the screwdriver technique fails me, I'll probably it a shot.

Ticking Noise Only Under Load (91 N/A w/W58)

Well, I have one valve shim that is too tight and 9 that are too loose! I guess that may be a source of the problem. I'm off to search for an adjusting tool.

    Tool Needed in Central IL

I was hoping to avoid that technique as I tend to break things that way! But, I think I'll at least give it a shot. I don't have much chance taking the cams out anyway. The last owner completely rounded off the nuts holding the fan clutch to the pulley.

    Tool Needed in Central IL

This is probably a long shot, but I'll throw it out there anyway. Does anyone in the Springfield, IL area have a valve adjusting tool that I may borrow? I can't seem to find one anywhere and I'd rather not pull the cams...it's probably going to come to that though.

Ticking Noise Only Under Load (91 N/A w/W58)

It could be an exhaust leak, but I haven't found one. It does go away when I disengage the clutch or put it in neutral. I ruled out a transmission issue because the noise is in sync with the engine regardless of the gear. Maybe I was a bit short-sighted in that assumption? Regarding the...

    Timing

I was searching for the correct timing and ran across this thread. I know it's been a while but I think its necessary to respond to the last post. If you are running the correct timing and putting anything higher than 87 octane in your 7MGE, you are throwing money away. The reason for higher...

Ticking Noise Only Under Load (91 N/A w/W58)

I'm planning to check the lash tonight. I don't have a light gun to check the timing. I guess I should get one. I run 87 octane. I ran a full tank of 93 with the same noise. The noise seems to be at cam speed...I highly doubt it's detonation.

Ticking Noise Only Under Load (91 N/A w/W58)

So I have what I think is a strange noise. There is a ticking noise that sounds very much like valve tapping. The weird part is that it only happens under a load. When revving the car in neutral, there is no tapping noise. When the vehicle is in gear and moving (acceleration, deceleration...

    Just got a 91 N/A

I bought it at a dealership and paid $3600 out the door. The plan is to start building a 2JZ in the spring. I don't plan on taking any shortcuts, so it'll realistically take me a year or so to get it together. I'm excited to start the process though!

    Just got a 91 N/A

Hey guys. I've been lurking for a while now trying to find a Supra. Well, I finally got one. It's a Red 91 N/A. It has 131,000 miles and seems to be in pretty good shape. It's a Chicago car so there are plenty of scrapes and dings in the body, but the interior is pretty much immaculate...
