Everything you just mentioned is spot on and I am aware of it all. The reason I am doing this is because my pauter rods are 9% lighter than stock and pistons are gonna be different weight as well (still deciding on the pistons). Because im installing lighter components the entire assembly...
Engine block machine work has started. Engine lab will be doing the following
clean & inspect block
resurface block
install billet mains and line bore/hone
torque plate bore/hone to fit .5mm o/s forged pistons
replace oil pump driveshaft bearings
polish oil pump driveshaft journals
polish...
So now that the head is pretty much done I decided to get started on the short block. Ive been saving this block for about a year. It came out of a 1990 with 31k miles on the clock. Whether the odometer was rolled back or not I don't know, but the bearings look good. I will be taking the...
Well im sure the machine shop will say exactly what you said...valve will seat in 1-2 thousands. Best thing is to let it break in first before dumping 300 on shimless buckets.

Been thinking about what Albert and IJ have said and I think the best idea for a newly machined head might be to just run stock buckets for a few hundred miles then swap in shim less.
What a train wreck...Tell me that's a junk head or something!!
I picked up a few ideas for porting from TK on performance forums. Check out a 2JZ head he did for a customer...http://performanceforums.com/forums/showthread.php?67238015-2JZ-Powered-Soarer-Drag-Car/page2
Yea our bottom ends will be simular except the rods...I went with pauter fitted with arp custom age 625 bolts but eagles are good. The bill for my head was 1300 for machine work but I ended up doing as much as you probably could to a head. The only tip I have for porting the exhaust is that I...
Thats good info. What would I do without you guys? Probably on the side of the road somewhere in 6 months wondering why my timing belt broke.

I didn't really think about that to be honest. I mean I know they do close up but after how many miles? I suppose I should really take that into consideration especially with higher lift cams and dual valve springs. I didn't order the buckets yet so I will bump it up to the high end of the...
Just spent an hr reading through this thread. Love your car. My favorite part was how the car was making insanely loud explosions when letting off, that never gets old lol :D
Looking forward to seeing your new setup
Yep, I am going to make them as tight as I can when ordering the shimless buckets. .006 on the intake and .008 on the exhaust.
They actually weren't all .008-.009 when I took the time to really measure them. Here is what engine lab was able to do with just 100 shims I gave them...
intake...
Yep. You can read all about this mod here.

Gordon (six pack) gave me instructions to give the machine shop. Using a 9/16 reamer enlarge the holes to a depth of .210 inches. This creates an...
Got the head back from engine lab. Looks pretty good. Valve lash is right around the .008 to .009 clearance on all valves. It's a shame i will be taking it all apart to do the combustion chambers and shimless buckets.
Girdle fits pretty tight on the studs...almost have to be careful not to damage the studs. Once torqued down it will do a fine job I would say.

Ive seen alot of oem girdles designed as a flat plate simular to the girdle by the ebay seller jza75. Im interested in the full girdle if you can design it for pro gram main caps which is what im going to use. Let me know how it turns out.

Yep you need 3.9" long arp studs to get the girdle to fit. Not sure what kind of steel it is but its not easy to bend and its very hard.
FYI I cleaned out my inbox.
