Have a 7MGTE in a auto Cressida.
Occasionally the engine refuses to kick over.
Alternater is charging good & the starter motor is fine.
The only way to start it is to manually move the fan belt a few inches.
Is it the CPS & what is causing it?
Installed a pair of BC 264 cams in a 7MGTE recently.
According to the cam card they have 36 degrees of overlap.
It certainly does not like that much & I had to reduce it to 32 in order to get a decent idle & prevent occasional stalling.
I can easily reduce it further but am concerned at...
Wondering if there would be any issues in connecting a see through fuel filter in the PCV line just before the throttle body inlet to act as a water/oil seperator on a 7MGE engine?
How many different types of valves are there for the 7M & how much of a difference would their shape make to the compression ratio?
Can you determine the compression ratio of the 7M by measuring the combustion chamber volume, which is around 39cc for the spare head I have in front of me, &...
Could I have some opinions of suitable DIY repair products, such as Quickaluminum, in regards to filling minor pitting in the combustion chamber & ports.
What sort of temperatures do these parts get up to in a N/A 7M engine?
Apart from the BHG issues what are the various restrictions, and possible solutions, of building a tough N/A 7M engine?
Please no "just go turbo" answers.
If anyone is having trouble tuning these cams I have found with my setup that I +2 & E -2 & 15 degrees timing gives me the best power.
The cams come advanced by 4 degrees at the standard setting of 0 & 0.
N/A auto Cressida with 7MGE.
How accurate would it be to degree camshafts, to find 0.05" cam lift, by measuring piston movement starting from 0 at #1 TDC & knowing the stroke is 3.58" & maximum cam lift is 0.336"?
Just wondering what is considered the most effective way to dyno a auto.
With mine (7M Cressida) they always just use 2nd gear starting in a rev range just outside where it would kick down to 1st, usually around 3500rpm.
Would it not be better to disconnect the auto kickdown cable so you...
In the last few days I installed a modified ECU in my auto 7MGE.
The shift points at WOT have been increased from 6200 to 6700 rpm & the engine pulls to this new redline in 2nd quite well as I am running the BC264 cams & new valve springs.
Would I have to increase the static timing by 1-2...
Just wondering what is the maximum rpm used for those people that have installed the Brian Crower 264 cams in the 7M.
Mine pull really well in the 4500-6500 range.
Any dyno sheets?
Recently I put on a ported head on the 7MGE using ARP studs & did a compression test today as it did not perform as good as I hoped:
160, 165, 130, 170, 100, 170.
With the old head it had very good consistent compression.
Wet test #3 stayed the same & #5 only went up around 5 psi so I...
One thing that I just thaught of that could have contributed to my previous engine using so much oil.
How hard is it to install the valve stem seals incorrectly?
When I checked them there was a small gap, maybe 1 mm, at the bottom of all of them.
Would that be sufficient to allow the oil...
Any downsides on using exhaust shield (header) wrapping on intake tubing that is exposed to high temperatures?
What about wrapping a stack of aluminium foil around it, that should keep the heat away.
Just after some feedback from anyone that has tried the turbo intake cam in the n/a engine.
Has slighly more lift & longer duration so should give a mild top end increase.
