The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Alright well time for some updates I suppose. After finding that the 2j was going to need to be rebuilt I decided to put the r154 onto the 7mgte so I could at least drive an enjoy the car over the summer. So back up on the jackstands she goes: And a few painful hours later: Had an...

    The Small Questions Thread

Haha my attitude stems from people who make absolutely useless posts and just waste forum space. Doat and Chevyguyjoe posted something useful and did not look like a tool while doing so. Seems to be the common thing on this forum, people that don't know what they are talking about and try to...

    The Small Questions Thread

The next time you blindly guess on something I hope you have better luck. And I took the pistons and rods out and discovered this so the whole engine is now going to get a refresh, including bearings.

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Well after pulling the pistons out and measuring all the rings I started to inspect the cylinder walls.. Going to tear the block apart and have the cylinders honed and the deck skimmed by a machine shop. While I am doing all this I may install ARP rod bolts and TT pistons so I wont have to...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Finally tore into the 2jz a bit this weekend and glad I did. The head was machined just as the owner said, however the block doesn't look like it was cleaned AT ALL from the old headgasket. After a few minutes with a razor and brake cleaner(amazing how much crap this took off) Clean head...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Yea the 2jzge na-t and r154 combo popped up for $1200 on a local drifter page so I could not pass it up...Engine has around 60k on it(jdm) and the trans about 110k. Also came with a bunch of spare and aftermarket parts. I will do the same thing I did with the 7m and take the whole engine apart...

The diamond in the rough. 1991 blue metallic turbo targa restoration

Well over the last month the car had been my daily for a while and was great. Until the automatic trans decided it did not like to move anymore. Also about that time what I assume are the turbo seals went so the car now smokes when cold and a bit when warm. So this is now happening Setup...

Project: Git'R driving...a VERY short build

Looks like a nice build! Any more pictures of the exhaust on the car? I have a superdragger sitting on the side of my house waiting to be installed.

    Mountain build!

If the transmission support snapped like that then most likely the transmission was not fully mated to the engine properly and was not lined up putting stress on that mount as you tightened it. Seems like an interesting idea for the car, however I will say right off the bat the MKIII is not the...

Yes they do fit: (not my pictures) From what I have found they are almost identical to MKIV TT brakes from a physical standpoint(piston size, rotor size, etc) which should be more than enough stopping power.

Lol no the 2j plan is in full swing, when(not if) the 7m blows I will have the 2j sitting on the stand ready to go in.

Got the engine pulled apart tonight. Amazing how fast you can get stuff done after you've done it about 10 times... Again its pretty easy to tell which cylinders have had some coolant in them lol Amazing how fast the shitty green coolant rusted everything. Also found the little SOB: Old...
