Other things to change while head is off

gaskets and hoses, as many as you can get to and can afford. i used oem gaskets for head gasket, egr cooler, throttle body, turbo oil return. other than those, i used an eristic gasket set i got on ebay for $40. if you can afford it, have the head professionally cleaned at a machine shop...

Question on installing MHG pertaining to lower timing cover and copper spray.

you should be machining the head and block anyway for a MHG. and when you machine the block, you should machine the rear timing cover at the same time. problem solved! :D also it is called Spray-on Copper Gasket and it is often made by a company called Permatex. and you should read the...

    Starts beautifully. Throttle stutters/stalls

seems to me you may also want to check the AFM. your symptoms sound like the way the car would drive with the AFM unplugged: limited to 3000rpm, limited in how much the throttle will open before car bogs down, and running rich condition to compensate for unknown air volume (fuel calculations...

    coolent loss

if you dont find coolant dripping out onto the ground, then it is likely a blown headgasket and you are burning the coolant you are losing. do you ever see white smoke coming out of your exhaust pipe?

New car, new project. Asking for advice on my build.

go bigger if you are gonna do other supporting mods, namely fuel system upgrade (pump, afpr, wideband o2) and air metering upgrade (lex afm or maft pro or standalone). otherwise stay with the 440s. and an inch of oil in every cylinder? well at least your rings are sealing the liquid oil in...

    The Rebuild! (90T)

heh update... had the a/c coolant temp sensor and the gauge cluster sensor switched. fixed, and now i have a temp gauge! also did some research about oil pressure and i guess im dead on with ~5 at idle and 40 at 3000rpms. next problem: no a/c and no heat. hitting the a/c button doesnt seem...

some questions as i finish up my head gasket job...

thanks IJ, ill keep an eye on it. seems to already be smoking less. ok so, i took it out for a spin. i hadnt driven it, just started it and rev'd it gently in the driveway. anyway, i was going to test the afm, but first i wanted to see how the car would drive with the AFM unplugged (make...

some questions as i finish up my head gasket job...

replaced the pump and installed my newly reconditioned gas tank. car started right up! unfortunately, i have now discovered my AFM is fucked up. probably from when i cleaned it with electronics/MAF cleaner. :( i suppose these things cant really be repaired? it is normal for there to be some...

Changing my head gasket, me asking for your help while doing this

yes you can switch, it is just bad to waffle back and forth. pick one and stick with it. also, i run 5w-30, but i live in california. does it freeze in houston? even if it does, it is summer right now. i would go with a lighter oil.

    The Rebuild! (90T)

well, i got the tank in and connected everything up. cranked the engine and it started right up! threw a code 51, which led me to inspect the TPS. discovered i had forgotten to plug it in! ;) plugged it in and code 51 went away. Was able to get the timing set and the motor is purring...

New car, new project. Asking for advice on my build.

here is something that can increase reliability and isnt too invasive or difficult to achieve: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?62838-Installing-a-Full-Flow-Thermostat-Controlled-Oil-Cooler-amp-Remote-Filter for strength in the block, you can use arp rod bolts and main studs. if...

    Wheel Fitment & Question Thread

i like the your setup hvyman. ill think about dropping each of my offsets by 5mm. and i think ill maybe rethink the 8.5 in the front. maybe ill look for an 18x9. i think x10 is too big, and i dont like the look of a really stretched tire. 18x9 with a 255 sounds perty good. 18x10 with a...

Changing my head gasket, me asking for your help while doing this

that is the correct way to do it, anyway. you are supposed to turn it 2 full revolutions and then check to see if the marks are still aligned. this is because if you only do 1 stroke, you will be at TDC on the exhaust stroke which will have different cam gear positioning than TDC on the...

    Wheel Fitment & Question Thread

im thinking: 18x8.5 245/35-18 25mm 18x10 275/35-18 30mm and ill do some fender rolling. id prefer not to pull the fender, though. will that work out?

Valve Cover Gasket Question, Toyota vs. Aftermarket

yea all those rubber gaskets are hermetically sealed. that must prolong their shelf life and with toyotas strict quality policies, i wouldnt be surprised if they have in-house expiration dates for their rubber parts. or at least a high enough turnover that nothing sits on the shelf for THAT...
