mkiv rims work because they are an inch wider up front, and 2.5 wider in back. With a 7 inch wheel, it will look "odd"
Yeah, most neglected 7ms look like that, and run fine.

87T, Do whatagainst suggested but turn it slowly, in increments until you can just drive the way you want to without hitting fco. By modding the stock afm, you can push fco up to at least 14 psi while still maintaining the FCO function as a fail safe.
17X7 will have problems.
While you may not rub, you're going with a stock width and sucking the rim in 11mm. That's ~ 1/2" further inboard. It just won't look right without at least a 10mm spacer (which will need longer studs)
