It really is very simple to test (with detailed pictures and all on TSRM) but you have to read and understand it for your self.
Fuel pressure VSV line or maybe the VSV itself. VSV is mounted under the inlet manifold.
Look at the vacume layout on tsrm.
It sounds like heat soak to me, since you have no problem on cold starts.

How many miles have you done on the new build. If its fairly new you will have to wait until the rings bed in properly.
Goolgle TSRM and go through the 7m manual and see if you can trouble shoot your crank case ventilation system.
What did you figure mate a distributer based ECU will work with the CAS based ECU.

You plugged the 7MGE ECU in to a 7MGTE car and hoped that it will start? May be theres something i dont know! scratches head!.
Try TSRM and buy your self a good multi meter and start by testing power to the ECU.
Does your dash get power at all?
I like the screw driver on the ring gear metrhod...worked for me..do a risk and effort involved assestment in getting it torqued .
Any ways do you have a wrench that goes up to 195.
