I'd give the a difficulty level of about 4 to replace.
It's best to replace the bushing when the shifter is out of the car.

The best conversions to R134a occur when it is converted from a "working" R12 system.

If this is the S3 V2 shifter....
The internal bushing (one) is from a BMW 3/5 series. Chosen for easier future
replacement. BMW's usually need these replaced at 30-50K.
I've seen them in older BMW's where they have a split or missing one of the "teeth",
though the design is quite smart...
C's is slightly taller than the stock shifter.
The shift fulcrum is rather long. This will be noticable
when installed on a used (worn) transmission. One may
experience shift engagement issues.
S3 V2 is 1" shorter height than stock.
The fulcrum was tuned to compensate for a used...
Redline MT90 is a known transmission tune up in a can (or bottle).
Though when it is cold (< 35F), a used W58 or R154 does have a tendancy
irratable between 1st and 2nd.
2nd gear synchro's are first to wear.
At some point, when 2nd (or sometimes 3rd) catches on a more regular
basis...
It's actually called the S3 shifter.
There is only V2 (or version 2).
