The answer to my problem was that the 1j tach I got with the clip was faulty. I switched to a 7m turbo tach and it is spot on now. If you are not getting any readings at all you need to check your wiring. Maybe rewire it in. Also you can check the resistance on the back of the circuit board...
To answer your original question, an intercooler is not simply a safety precaution, it would add more power however modest the gains. Only one person mentioned air intake temps, which by reducing them allow more oxygen molecules into the motor making it more efficient and produce more power...
For reference, the transmission oil cooler hose at napa is rated at 200 psi and 275 F constant 300 F intermittent. This hose with some t bolt clamps would probably be more than enough for an oil cooler setup.
Exactly what I was thinking, but all the threads I search, members are like, "if you cheap out and dont do stainless with AN fittings its gonna leak out and blow up your motor. Do you just run tranny oil cooler line then?
Thanks for the response. The hose clamp style actually weigh much less, not that the weight would even be noticable. I just thought it might be worth a shot and seems much simpler (and cheaper) than using all AN socket fitting.
For anyone who doesnt know what I'm talking about, its these ones.
Can you use hose ends with the clamps integrated into them on SS braid hose when hooking up an oil cooler since both the cooler and remote oil thermostat have hose barb fittings that come with them. My greddy oil filter relocation kit uses these style fitting and has no problems but I was...
I have to say mine was pretty difficult to get to also. The hardest part though is holding it upright trying to maneuver it out without spilling any oil.
I now have on the Greddy relocator mounted to the top of the shock tower about waist high for me. Just slip a plastic bag under the...
Thats probably because you guys are running the standard plugs like the 3330's or 6097's. Generally, you do not gap the plugs he linked to because of the brittle metals that they are made out of (Iridium and Platinum types)
On topic, I would just go with 6097's or the 3330's and keep up on...
Moe, may be completely unrelated to your problem, but I lost heat temporarily after my 1j swap when the vacuum line to the VSV? (on passenger firewall) popped off. See if the line is pulling sufficient vacuum to operate it or if its even attached.
When it happened it made my system only blow...
I don't think psychot was being sarcastic toward your comments. I think he was just exaggererating how capable the 1jz is with proper head work and you may have understood it as sarcasm. And a reputable member on SF gave him the information he was repeating in this thread, that may or may not...
