So what is the story from the PD on the dillhole who took your car? I am really really glad to hear that you recovered it.

How tough was the Y-pipe install and did you also (I assume) upgrade from the stock DP? I never did myself because #1 I was too lazy too mess with the Y pipe and #2 I figured the car would hit boost cut non-stop in 3rd or definitely 4th. Dave

Noice! Heh. I had beaten Mazdaspeed 3 (100+ trap), a Z28 that trapped 97, etc. so I knew the old 1JZ could move out once it got traction.

Dude, thanks for posting your 1/4 mile results. I always wondered what my old car would run. I figured she would run 105 in the 1/4, based on the roll races (punch from 2nd gear, etc.) I had back when it was mine. I guessed right! Starting in 2nd, holy smokes! That's the 4.30 for you. Glad...

Glad to hear my old ride is getting some upgrades. I was never able to make it to the track, so I am looking forward to hearing what kind of ET & MPH you're able to put down. Dave

Boost drops off at high RPM (stock twins w/ MBC)

Thanks all. I will post again after I get a 3" DP. Not going to wrestle with the Y-pipe. Also, like I said, I checked the I/C and intercooler pipes for leaks. I am not sure how to properly check the other areas. I did have a nasty leak at my boost gauge fitting once.

Boost drops off at high RPM (stock twins w/ MBC)

Thanks! I have actually been driving this way about 1.5 years but only added the MBC a few months ago.

Boost drops off at high RPM (stock twins w/ MBC)

My near-stock 1JZ does not hold the selected boost level at high RPM. I set my MBC for approx. 13-14psi in 4th gear, but as I hit 5000+ RPM the boost drops by 1 to 1.5 psi. Is this normal? This happens in 3rd gear also. I pressure tested my intercooler system and pipes but realize I could have...

How Long Did Your Stock Twins Last?

1.5 years so far....mine have about 75K miles on them now. Still boosting strong at 13-ish PSI.

Car (stock twins) misses at 12+psi only when its hot outside?

Well, I fixed the problem using zip ties. Turns out that I had a boost leak right at the "T" connection which runs to my boost gauge. I had not bothered to zip tie or clamp those connections - argh! So whenever the boost went much above 10psi most of it escaped and did not make its way to the...

Car (stock twins) misses at 12+psi only when its hot outside?

All in good time of course! What sucks is that right when I was completing my swap there was a r154 with jz bellhousing on craigslist near Austin super cheap, I think $250 or so. By the time I called he was packing it up to ship it to the buyer.

Car (stock twins) misses at 12+psi only when its hot outside?

THanks for the tips. I will report back after I heat shrink them. I have been driving the car with the W58/1JZ at 10-11psi for a year and all is well. Like I said, I never drop-clutch start the car and try not to shift brutally.

Car (stock twins) misses at 12+psi only when its hot outside?

I am going to closely inspect the packs this weekend, and either epoxy or heat shrink them. I drove the car a bunch last night, when it was cooler outside, and experienced the same problem. So the miss is boost-related, nothing to do with temperature. As for the W58, Mk2 Supra guys have...

Car (stock twins) misses at 12+psi only when its hot outside?

Situation: Just installed MBC this weekend. Installed fresh set of NGK 6097's gapped at .028. The car misses badly as soon as she hits 11-12 psi, but only when the outside temp is in the 90s, as it is today. This morning, when the car had only been running a few minutes and the outside temp...
