Okay. My dad had told me this morning that when my machinist stopped by last week, he did some measurements, and according to him my piston protrusion value is .018 above deck surface. Now, how do i figure how much more Head Gasket I need? By reading the Head Gasket Size Calculator, the stock...
Okay thank you. Was not sure if thats what it meant, or if it was pre-compressed value. I'm going to grab some values from the garage tomorrow if I have time, and throw them up here. I'll have piston protrusion values...maybe you guys can help me decide what HG I should use. I have learned...
What is the measurement of a compressed HKS 1.2mm HG? I have piston protrusion, and both the block and head were decked. My machinist is trying to find out what the compressed value of the HG is, to find out whether or not I have enough clearance, ultimately.
However...after reading on in...
I got my engine back together....and I'm wondering what the maximum limit is, for piston protusion past the deck. I'm already pissed off at Napa for doing such a bang up job with my block....and having to find another machine shop to fix there mistakes. I'd hate to find out they shaved too...
I just loaded my block in the trunk of my Crown Victoria. I'm leaving for Youngstown, Ohio tonight. I'm taking my engine to a different machinist, whom I am real close with. I'll be dropping it off Saturday morning...and I'll be coming back Sunday night with it in my trunk, all smoothed out...
Most of the time when I walk into the Toyota Parts Dept and tell them I need parts for an 89 Supra, they give me a "deer in headlights" look. They are clueless. Sad thing is, I work for the same dealership, only the Lexus franchise instead. I've tried getting stuff from Lexus, but some stuff...
I was hit in my driveway, by my brother. We both have the same insurance companies, and they screwed me. I'm soo angry. My damage was far worse then yours, and they wouldn't total it, and give me only 500 bucks. Not even close to being enough to fix it right. I'm still steaming over this...
So, do you think that surface is too coarse? How smooth should it be? Should I be able to see my reflection or what? lol Do you have any values I can give to the machinist??
It doesn't catch, but u can feel mini ridges in the surface. Sort of like what you'd feel if you ran your finger across a peice of nylon.
EDIT: Some pictures:
So I've been reading and searching, and i still haven't seen any values or pictures, what a properly decked block should look like. I got mine back, and it seems a bit rough. Pictures and/or specs would be great!
I just got my engine back from Napa, and I guess I should have read this thread first. I didn't have my engine decked with the plate bolted on. I also believe they hottanked the block, but I didn't replace the softplugs, or oil pump shaft bearings. I've got myself all worried now. The engine...
