cost for me. New built short block for under the cost of a used 2jzgte. Also it's already proven 2j head flow more then the 1j. But then these enginesare boosted, so flow number won't matter that much. It's the raised compression that will more then make up for head flow.
I finally opened up my 1j to prove to myself if I had crankwalked. I did indeed crankwalked.
The thrust washers, all 4 where in the oil pan. 2 of the 4 washers were badly damaged. The holding tab tore off and were wore down to tin.
The damper wore into the 1j'z plastic timing belt...
Put the piston at it's highest position, then leave the car in gear. Pulled out the spark plug and hooked up the air compressor to keep the valves from dropping. Then swap springs and valve seals while in there.
I did drop one valve as I lost air pressure, but it droped on the piston. But...
I run ms1 with sequential spark on all stock sensors since 2007 with some help from aphxero. I use the stock crank trigger and the rear cam trigger on a second vr circut I built in the proto area of the v3 board. Also with advice of I think aphxero, I run 6 coil drivers instead of the factory...
Kinda, both 76mm, but my greddy has a slow journal bearing and larger exhaust ar. A gt4276 will spool a few hundred rpm sooner. I started getting a good amout of boost around 6000rpm. I'm guessing a gt4276 would get good spool up around 5700rpm on a 1j.
On my 1j, my complete engine was...
I ran a t88h-38gk on a stock 1j with BC272 cams+1250cc injectors. Almost everything the same. I received peike torque at around 6800rpm. I want to see what your gt4276 will create it's power.
I ran a t88h on my 1j. It was really bad with stock cams. It would spool, then drop off hard. Cams really woke it up with a standalone. started spooling around 5, then at 6k, took off till my redline of 8.5k.
you'll need to install another vr circut for the cam sensor. Either build a dual vr dauther board and/or add an extra vr circut to the proto area of the board.
edit,,, for 1j's or 2j's
way too much timing. Mine ramps up to 17deg on pump gas. BUT I asume your running stock cams, so your not far off. Check out the cam group buy. They show an 140hp improvement.
I'm not sure how much hp it had before the cams. I didn't want to waste money on the dyno till I had the cams in so I ran around untuned on low boost. After this cam swap it looks like I have to redo tuning. THEN dyno. Are you going to that big BC meet in july?
My first vid of 2010. Tuning megasquirt for the 272 large core cams. I'm going to drop the idle a bit to smooth it out. I thought I'd share on the projects section as I've never shared this here till now.
So as it is, I'm done modding the engine (till it blows). I built this as a cheap daily...
You might be able to get back those 550's + resister box from the new owner of your last 1j. Too bad we didn't meet up with our 1j's for some road pulls. I think that would have been fun. Once my tranny blows up, I'll also do a th400 or th350 swap with 4.5g stall.
You have to gut this car...
looking good.
btw, your soaror engine is pending deployment into another bmw. That t78 just needs fuel mods and a standalone....
A bpu setup will max the twins without a boost controller. 15 vs 18psi didn't make any difference.
Why the apexi?

Can be done. You'll end up signaling the factorty built-in ls1 driver with ms instead. Either ms1 with 6 spark out's or wait till ms3.
The hard part is mounting the coils and keeping it clean. I don't think...
