Very clean build you have. I like how your wiring is very organized and the location of it.
I'm taking my time this build, glad to see its showing!

Turbo out and getting rid of the 83divided housing, it spools super quick but chokes up top.
Replacing it with a 1.00 AR recommended by full race

what made you conclude the exhaust housing was choking up?
After lots of research on Google, full-race, and especially the forums, the 1.00 is the housing to have for a 83-76 borg warner.
It spools just after 4000 and pulls to 7000+ rpm. I don't have any if the dyno graphs i came across but that's what I remember them to be.
My local supra friend also thought my housing was a restriction at higher rpm as well.
Full race recommends anything over 20psi to use the 1.00 housing and anything under 20psi to use the .91. They don't list or recommend the .83.

hmm curious to see how your dyno graph looks. i'm still on the stock ecu so only revving to 6500 with a very liner power band. the .83 housing has worked well but when i was trying to run 30psi it was hitting that then dropping to 26psi. not sure if its the wastegate getting blown open or the housing is maxxed out. only ran it that high once but will be trying again the end of this month.

the duty cycle on my boost controller was really high to hit that much boost so that was leading me to believe the wastegate spring was too soft. if not though then the housing was next on the list. the thing is though pt6262's have made big power on the .83 housings and the borg has a 68mm exhuast wheel so it shouldn't choke up as easy theoretically.

Hmm that's interesting, makes me wonder if I had another issue. I've already sold the 83 and purchases the 1.00 so we'll see how it does. After taking the turbo off, there is somewhat of a undercut where the runners are welded to the t4 flange.
It is a cheap ebay manifold so I didn't expect much quality. Going to take a carbide bit to it and get a smoother transition, thst was definitely a restriction in flow...

So that 563 run was on an s363 with the 83 housing at around 26psi? I'm also having very high duty cycle on my boost controller so I'll have to get a stiffer spring. It currently has a 10psi spring in now. May try a 15 since I don't plan on running anything lower.

Again, I'm doing all the tuning and boost control setup myself, so there may be some error on my part and most definitely isnt the best tune but it is safe with conservative timing and on the richer side.

how much boost were you running and what were the problems?

the 563 run was on 20-22psi and would trap 123-124 never dynod on the higher boost but went 130-131mph so im sure it was in the 600's. i think with it holding 30psi it should trap 135+

im currently running 1 bar springs so like 15psi was thinking of going to 18psi since that is what i run on pump most the time. this is the graph on my hx35 when i was running waaaaay past the exhaust housing limits. just straight falls on its face. a larger exhaust housing would have helped there a good amount i'm sure.

I was running 18 psi and it'd hold strong through each gear not falling off. First and second gear would pull super quick and hard to roughly 6300, I don't have the log anymore but I'd say that's close.
Third through fifth would pull hard but only to about 5700-5800~ and it felt like the turbo fell in its face. (just like my hx35 did with a 12cm housing)

The only thing I could think of is the housing is a restriction at higher rpm and was running out of steam so to say

thats weird was your boost pressure staying consistent throughout the pull? also a/r?

i really doubt that housing is a restriction until at least mid 20's because i had excellent boost control with the 15psi wastegate and running 22psi. boost varying a couple psi through out the whole pull. i'm hoping the wastegate spring fixes my issue and i can run a steady 30-31psi. if it doesn't then i'm sure its the housing. going to take all my intercooler piping off to clean, inspect, and make sure its all good. then check for boost leaks too.

the thing is though thats towards the max hp output of the turbo so i can see the housing being an issue. 18psi is around 500whp plus or minus some so its not really being pushed yet. the only other variable is if you were revving to 8000rpm the smaller housing will max out easier for sure. my cars all low end but i want it like that its all ready laggy enough to me lol

boost was dead on through every gear with the .83 housing

just swapped the 1.00 on last night and took if for a spin this afternoon. i can already feel a HUGE difference.
its slightly laggier with full boost (222kpa) just over 17psi at 4447 rpm. this may spool a little quicker with a fine tuned timing/VE map.

i have some tuning to do at higher rpm, it leans out slightly but pulls all the way to redline no problem. i let off at 6500 because of the leaning issue.
ill do some tweaking to the VE table then back to doing a few pulls!

very happy with the 1.00 housing

wow thats quite a bit laggier now thats like 500rpm difference from where i'm seeing full boost in 3rd. you have cams though and the ability to rev higher so i could see the combo working out great. if you rev to 7500rpm you'll actually have a larger power band than full boost at 4000 and revving to 6500. look forward to see how it plays out might be the direction i want to go too!

Well that was quick... Heads at the machine shop getting resurfaced and new hg on the way with Arp head studs!

Was running 22psi when the lead lifted, I think the bolts stretched...
Either way, I caught it early enough the bottom end is fine. No sign of knock in the logs

My buddy also let me borrow his mk4 until I get my head back from the machine shop! Super nice 98' IJM tt auto targa with the stu gt28 turbos.

I didn't realize you're so close to Walla Walla, I was just there in August (first time in WA) to visit family. How long of a drive is it for you to Walla Walla?

Where's the dyno video??

Yep walla walla is about a 30 minute drive to my house which isn't bad at all. Feel free to let me know if you're in town

My buddy took a few videos, I just reminded him to upload them. Might be a week I'll bet before he actually gets to it
