I just took my car out to give my girlfriend a ride down the street and as soon as I hit third there was a bang! Gear box soup! This was on a freshly rebuilt trans complete with the marlin crawler billet plate. They simply cant handle the power. Time to go 6 speed or Th400 I guess or just part out the car as im getting sick of this shit anyways :icon_mad:

Strange how many miles did the trans have one it? what kind of oil where you running with it? Ive had my fair share of nuked R-154's BUT I dont think they are garbage by any means.

If your still running that thing for track then hell yes get a TH400 but if your supra is your play toy that you love to take out every so often then id say rebuild an R-154 with marlin crawler parts and call it done.

Shit....and we were just talking about this the other day....

Let it sit for a few weeks while you regain your cool, then start gathering parts for the auto swap. You wont regret it :)

Need more info..Answer the questions above and how much power are you making? Sounds like a bad rebuild to me if it was the tranny that went.

Bah, I say. That has nothing to do with how reliable the transmission is, that's entirely because you were trying to impress a girl. Supras don't like competition.

Seriously, it would help if you posted what kind of power levels you are running, and how aggressively you were driving it. Otherwise you're just going to get a crapload of people thinking it's user error.

Trans was rebuilt just prior to Vegas so it only had a few hundred miles on it. All new bearings, synchros, seals, shift forks, sliders and the marlin crawler bits. It was built by my friend who is a toyota master mechanic and was the tightest best shifting trans Ive had yet. The boost was about 35 psi which would put it at 700+rwhp and yes the driving was agressive. Thats how a car like this is supposed to be driven. Oh and I was on Mickey Thompson drag radials.

I probably will just go auto. Im just pissed that it broke on the street and not on the track. I havent even had a chance to make a pass yet.

Ouch, sorry to hear that.

I would go th350 or 700r4 with the boostwerx kit. Looks beautiful, and uses a standard chevy converter. It is not on his website, call him or go on Clubna-t

There we have it - the reason is clear. The fault lies not with the R154, but with the owner, who was driving like a dick.

Listen hear toolbag. The trans is weak and cant handle shit for power period. Im sure it would do just fine powder puff shifting through the daisy fields with 230hp but for a car making serious power! It sucks. It broke while under power, NOT WHILE SHIFTING!

In thorey how much power is the R154 suppose to hold?

But that sucks, that it went out so fast, after a fresh rebuild.

For some reason, it just seems like there is a factor somewhere that made this transmission go boom. I'm sure there are plenty of people who are pushing 700+ horses that have the R154 and drive it aggressively, something just seems odd.
