Looks great... Why didnt you just fiberglass the area you cutout? Airflow?

Yeah, I wanted to make it a proper duct to the IC, and hopefully make it look a lot more finished, rather than just cut and patched.

Thanks Lance. That means a lot to me coming from you. Maybe one of these days I'll actually get it finished.

Here are a few quick camera phone snaps of the bumper in the current state:

I still have a lot of finish work to do but I think I've got the design pretty much squared away.

Today I cleaned the UCA's.
Before:

After some prep-all, a scotch brite pad, and some elbow grease:
IMG_4350.jpg

I also did the front subframe and LCA's but they aren't as pretty:

This week I re-dyed the steering wheel. The leather was still in OK shape, the finish was just shot.

After some sanding, filling, and an aerosol can of water based dye:

Done shaping the front bumper:

It's been a long time since my last update, hasn't it :) I mean a LONG time.

Let's see, my parts came in from Shine in January. Yes, JANUARY.

I bought the Bomex whale tale from the group buy, Bomex sides, and a Trial front lip. Here are some test fit pics (with a different lip, Ken at Shine straightened out the mix-up no problem):

I bought the Lambo hinges from the guy on here that had posted up the pics before and got them installed. There was plenty of clearance to the A-pillar, clearance to the fender on the other hand with them all the way up is pretty damn tight. They're 16.5 lbs each by the way.

I modified the bolt that keeps the door from going in while up and going up while in, so that it does its job better and also gives me a bit more clearance to the fender:

I also used a couple pieces of the old rear sway bar to give the hinges an extra mounting point just for some extra sturdiness:

Flame away :)

Next I got busy welding up unused holes in the engine bay and from the old rear spoiler. Unfortunately I had yet to do the gas conversion on my cheapo welder and was using flux core at the time so the welds aren't pretty. I guess that's what grinders are for, right?

I had some rust in the battery tray area so I drilled out the spot welds and after several iterations of chemical paint stripper and rust remover it was good to go again. I stitch welded the body seams in the engine bay then laid out a layer of kitty hair on the seams.

I added a nut to the inside of the cowl so I can 'properly' mount my HKS Twin-Power:

Hit the now rust free battery tray with some weld-thru primer:

Stock fuel tank and trunk floor are going away in lieu of a cell and dual mufflers. I cut out the trunk floor and shaved the gas door. I got a little hasty with the grinding and caused some low spots, but nothing a skim coat of filler won't take care of.

Last one for today I promise :)

As a side project, I cleaned and POR-15'd the front subframe and LCA's:

I was getting a lot of moisture in the air when running the air file for long periods of time, so I put together some water traps and bought a desiccant dryer for the compressor. I now have an official "contraption" in the corner of my garage:
IMG_4573.jpg

I didn't have a 1.8mm tip for my paint gun and another one would be about $40, when the gun was only $49 to start with. I had a 20% coupon for Harbor Freight (aka Harbor Fright or Horror Freight) so I bought another 2 piece gun set for $40. The first gun had worked quite well and these are supposed to be pretty good also so I figured I'd give them a try.

First coat of primer is on the engine bay: :icon_bigg

I'm thinking I may shave the square holes that are used for attaching the fender liners as well and come up with a different way of attaching them, perhaps by welding studs in place of the holes and using nuts on the liner side.

I also shaved the hole where the 7M power steering lines passed through the radiator support.

I forgot to mention the dolly I built out of 2x6's to roll the body around on in the garage. It really helps when you have limited room to work with.

What brand of turbo heat blanket is that and where did you get it?

Boost Logic. I bought it secondhand a while back. I don't think they sell black ones anymore.
