Ahhhh...Tracy CA. Home of the "Tracy Aces" as they were called back in the day of '80's aviation. Yep, I know where you are now...it doesn't get that cold there ;)

Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis was done on GC and I have sent samples to Blackstone for analysis. It showed GC was indeed a PAO oil with ester adds...Blackstone analysis (not just mine either) has showed repeated cold viscosity in the 68-74 cst range. I posted the info in march '07 in post #4 of this thread:

Just got info from a friend at AZ that their normal special will be beginning again this thursday 3-12-09. 5 quarts of any Castrol Synthetic and a K&N filter for 29.99. Just thought I would let you guys know, as I am going to stock up on 15 quarts or so of it.

Just bumping this us to remind everyone that this is only going on for another week as of today. It's a damn good deal. My total bill was right at $26, thats a $24 savings. I have 15 quarts and 3 filters now, and will probably grab at least 5 quarts and a filter if not 10 quarts and 2 filters more. It's a great deal, stock up now so you don't have to get reamed in case this deal isn't presented again for awhile.

How exactly did you pay $26? Sale price (here) is $29.99.....

Yup, because they dropped the price from $29.99 to $24.99! Buy now people!

I'll be going back and seeing if I can get my $5 back....

Just picked up 16 quarts of GC and 3 K&N filters. The current deal is $24.99 for 5 QTS and a K&N. I saved just OVER $70 today and spent about $80.

DAMN good deal. :) My top closet shelf now looks like a auto parts store. :)

GC isn't being stocked at my local Autozone anymore, and it's been replaced with an American version of 0W 30. Notice the bottle doesn't have "Made in Germany" anywhere on the back.

Looks to me like some very old batch they threw up there, it doesn't seem to even remotely match the other bottles.

I think it might be actually the new gold castrol i've read about it on bobistheoilguy.com. its just as good as old GC as if i remember correctly. It also says energy conserving now unlike old GC. They probably certified it.

No it's not ;)

GC gold has been around since early 2005...the previous stuff was GC green. They are basically the same oil (PAO based), but it can be argued green GC has a better additive pack. Both were made in Germany.

The version pictured above is not the European Formula, it's made in the USA, and it's base stock is hydrocracked dino oil like the rest of Castrol's USA line. It is not GC in any way. The only common factor is both GC and this are 0W-30.
