Two local board members installed Spec Stage 5 clutches in their 2JZ / R154 swaps. They had the same outcome, the clutch exploded on both cases and on both broke the bellhousing. Both had under 400 miles on their clutches. Here's some pics of the carnage:

LOL....that sucks...

Till try not to be an ass....I recomend a multi-disk clutch next time..

Both will be upgrading to multi-disk clutches.

Still.. what a piece of shit clutch. I had no problem with my Spec Stage 3, but looks like the Stage 5 has some issues.

No, it's not just Spec...

This design is not meant to handle the amount of abuse people put it though, the straps are DEFINATELY the weak point in the design.

Add in non-sprung hubs on the disk, tons of power, and hard shifting, and somehting is bound to give.

must be kicking themselves in the ass when the spec clutch is almost $1000 and the multi-disks are like $1200....then the spec blows up and does $300 in damage....

how much power are the cars making? 400 miles, what were you doing, they say 500 miles break in period to heating up and cooling down for the metal to cycle..

break-in has nothing to do with temp cycleing the metal.....FYI

Even if they took it baby soft on the clutches for the 500 around town stop and go miles....the clutches would have still failed under there driveing style.....and by the looks of it there style is a whole lot of clutch dumping!

I'd be asking SPEC for some help on this one.

Hi, I didn't follow break in procedure and in fact did the opposite and your clutch blew up. HALP

Kinda sucks that this result isn't from not breaking in the clutch...would have failed anyway....but spec will not cover this under warranty....sucks for them I guess.

Glad that I bought a Quarter Master twin plate........
I had talked to SPEC, but they didn't convince me.

And no, it is definately NOT a bolt-on.
I am having to get my billet steel flywheel machined to accept it.
