wow in interested in that intake manifold... how is that throttle body going to work?

looks good :)

Scandinavians build some crazy cool stuff. This is up there for sure!

I remember a fellow from over there deciding his 3" exhaust wasn't big enough... so he cut it in half and welded another 2 inches of steel strip on the top and bottom along it's entire length.

I'd consider hand building a FFIM out of carbon fibre to be comparable.

Judging from what that mold looks like it isnt so much a FFIM as it is a center feed flipped over to come in from the other side. Very innovative and should compliment the somewhat exotic twins on the other side nicely.

I've got to ask... how did you make the runners?

what's your goal?
It took some time for me to figure out how to make them because its impossible to jank a mould out of a runner with that shape. Then I came with the idea, if I could melt the mould... Candle wax melt at about 70 degrees Celsius. So I made 6 moulds out of stearin and casted the carbon fiber on them. I let them set, and shoved them in the oven.

To figure out how the radius should change depending on length from the cylinder head I used some law of physics. I dont know if this right but I wanted to test it.

I want the acceleration on the gas to be constant!

Did some algebra and came up with this: ( I can represent how I came up with this if anyone is interested)
trattradietm8.jpg

Y-axis= radius of the runner in cm.
X-axis= length from the beginning of the runner in cm.
So if you revolve the line around the X-axis you should get a runner like trumpet.

How long should the runners be?

Then again I opened the physics book. You have probably seen this before, but when the gasflow in to the cylinder is stopped by the closing valve it creates a shockwave that travels from the valve to the beginning of the runner at the speed of sound. The shockwave will then bounce back to the valve, then bounce once again at the beginning of the runner and so on. Like a trumpet. The energy of the shockwave will decrease for every bounce.
You can tune the runner so that the shockwave will hit the valve right after it starts to open, this will increase the velocity of the gasflow in the beginning of the intake cycle --> increase in volume efficiency.

So with an engine with 201 degrees intake cam (supra original) and intake air temp at 35 Celsius I came up with this:
runnerlengthyt0.jpg

Y-axis = How long the runner must be for the shockwave to me timed to hit the valve right after it starts to open. (meter)
X-axis = rpm
The colored lines is how many times the shockwave have bounced.

If it has bounced 6-7 times it has barely any energy. So i focused on the 4 and 5:th wave. I decided to make them at around 0,6 meter. This means that I SHOULD have an increase in VE at around 5200 rpm and an larger increase att 6500 rpm. (NOT TESTED YET!)

This is how I made them.

Smeared some polyester on the mould and had to cut it in half. Then I filled the new mould with stearin.

Note: This was just a prototype with one layer of carbon fiber. I used 4 layers on the others.

I come from a land down under
Eff: Could also have used polystyrene foam then melt it out with petrol once the part was finished :)

Very nice work so far I'll be keeping an eye on this thanks for posting.

I had to reverse the throttle body and mount it on the intercooler instead. Other wise it wouldn't fit. :icon_razz And I will get less strain on the carbon plenum.

So this is where I'm going to fit the throttle body and the blow off valve:

As you can see the intecooler take some space :icon_bigg. So I had to cut the frame a little bit.

I know... but this way I got 6 identical runners. But thanks! :icon_bigg

That is too fucking cool...Are you an engineer or something?

Not yet:icon_bigg. I'm studying to be a car system engineer. As a student I'm quite short on money but I hope to have enough to have it running in a month.

Goals? I don't know, somewhere around 400 hp.... or more:evil2:.

I forgot to say that I'm going to run it on E85. Don't know if you have it in US but it's 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.
