Ya there is a lot of overspray on stuff like the bumper supports and stuff but they did an exellent job. The guy took his time and stripped everything. Ill post an update tomarow, finals week is approaching so I had a lot of homework this weekend. I managed to get my front bumper support cut up and some of my IC piping mocked up, so Im almost ready to make a trip out to my bender.

Im hoping I can make a trip out to my bender on thursday. Im going to have to do my IC pipe one section at a time to make sure everything fits right since Im going to be working with such limited space. Im also working on a slide in and out mount for my oil filter location kit due to the lack of room

I got quite a bit done today.
I decided to move my power steering Reservor to clean up the engine bay a bit and make my intake a little easier to build. The brackets need cleaned up a bit but I think the new location looks much better than stock.

p867953_2.jpg

p867953_3.jpg

Heres what my turbo intake looks like, I just have to weld in the ports for my pcv, and BOVs

p867953_4.jpg
p867953_5.jpg

I also pulled the ECU today and snaked the monster of a wiring harness through the firewall
p867953_6.jpg
p867953_7.jpg

p867953_8.jpg

This actually took the longest of everything I did today, Probably becuase I did it without removing the shift knob or boot. I got the panell and shifter out in one piece
p867953_9.jpg

I doubt I get to work on it tomarow but by monday, My goal is to have my calipers and rotors blasted and painted, driveline dropped, Heater, vacuume, fuel lines and the rest of the wiring disconnected, transmission fully disconnected, and the rest of my oil filter mount done

I got about an hour in yesterday, and managed to get a little done.
The tranny is unhooked exept for the mount which will come last. I took off the speedo, ground wires, and unhooked the sensors, as well as pulled my slave cylinder.

Got quite a bit done today, My Rotors and calipers got sand cleaned up primered and painted and reinstalled.

p870673_1.jpg
p870673_2.jpg

I also welded up the first section of my new IC pipe, My bender has the mock ups of the rest of the system and should be getting it back to me anyday.
p870673_3.jpg

I also got the front of the engine pretty much stripped. All the belts as well as the fan, PS pump and AC Compressor are unbolted and wired out of the way. The radiator is out and the motor mounts are unbolted and any other wires and hoses I hadnt got to yet are also off now.

p870673_4.jpg

Looks like we might have to dust off the hoist tomorrow:naughty:

p872732_3.jpg
p872732_4.jpg

p872732_5.jpg

I also pulled the transmission, Looks like Ill have to re-silicon the front seal
p872732_6.jpg
p872732_7.jpg

My clutch and pressure plate look really good, doesnt look like it got any oil on it
p872732_8.jpg
p872732_9.jpg

p872732_10.jpg
p872732_11.jpg

I pulled the intake manifold, it could use a good cleaning
p872732_12.jpg
p872732_13.jpg

And the exhaust manifold
p872732_14.jpg
p872732_15.jpg

I found something strange when I pulled the turbo off. The inside of my turbo and manifold were white? At first glance I though Sh#T this thing was running lean but quickly drew the conclusion it must have been from burning coolant.
p872732_16.jpg
p872732_17.jpg

p872732_18.jpg

After taking the manifold off I was even more confused. The exhaust ports on both the head and the manifold were black and sooty just as I would expect, and the head gasket was only slightly blown on 3 cylinders? So on top of it looking normal on the engine side of the manifold I highly doubt it was burning enough coolant to cause this much deposit. The white look similar to calcium deposits and is hard and pretty rough and textured unlike regular exhaust carbon build up. In the manifold it starts black and transitions to white 1-2 inches down the runners.
p872732_19.jpg
p872732_20.jpg

I cant really think of any clear cause. I started thinking mabye my turbos exhaust housing is cracked and coolant was leaking into the turbine housing and getting vaporized. Nothing exactly fitss in my mind as I dont know why the deposits would start in the manifold if it were a crack in the turbo and I dont know why they wouldnt start back in the head if it was burning that much coolant??? Any ideas or experiences are greatly appreciated, Im pretty stumped

Also could someone clarify if the crank pulley nut is standard or reverse thread? I raped my breaker bar trying to crack it loose and started questioning everything I though I knew lol. And any preference on 3 in elbows? (Lipp, vs JLB)

thanks guys

I come from a land down under
Seen the white inside the housings a few times and it's usually something in the fuel.

The white on the outside looks like fluid leaks.

Yes the crank bolt is normal righthand thread but it's 195 ft/lbs.

ya I got the gasket set looks good, thanks. So the white isnt anything to worry about then? I just hadnt seen it on any of the other supras Iv worked on. As for the crank bolt I was sure it was righhand, at least I though it was thinking of the last two I did, but after it snapped my 1/2 drive breaker bar I started second guessing. Sure supprised the hell outa me when it happened:biglaugh:

So the build, has hit the roadbock I have been dreading. I moved 80 miles away from spokane to Pullman to go to school. So as of now the car sits in my shop with the motor on the stand awaiting this weekend. My rate of progress is going to virtually stop for a while as I will only have weekends to work on it. I did bring a crate of parts to my apartment to polish while Im here between weekends. My girlfriend thinks Im crazy and obsesed. Its probably a little of both:naughty: I might as well get something done though right?

Made the trip home and got a little work in this weekend. I had to work all day saturday so I stayed up till 2 in the morning getting the motor on a stand and pulling the crank pulley, lower timing cover, timeing belt, head and pan. The arms on my engine stand wouldnt reach the upper two bellhousing bolt holes. the were too close together so I made a plate that would bolt up and provide wider mounting points.

can you spot where its blown?

heres cylinders 1,2&3

I didnt have much time to work this weekend, I did pick up 2 9000lb 2 post lifts and an 8000 4 post!:naughty: So I guess it was time well spent. How nice would it have been to have them from the get go on this build. I cleaned the piston tops and cylinders but the head is definatly going to take some work to get clean. I did come home to find a broken harmonic balancer. My brother dropped it while I was gone so I had to track a new one down.

Im now trying to decide what motor mounts to go with. Both mine are shot so I am looking at a set of driftmotion steel cased mounts, MKIV mounts or an new oem set. I dont want to give up any of my "lexus" ride but I dont want to keep destroying mounts with the upgraded power either.

Its always nice to come home to new parts
