You should have thought of this 6 years ago... Find a trade (non union) start at the bottom, work your ass off, learn, don't complain, move up, post pics of sister. Or become a full time student.

you sure you want one? Looking through her myspace and I think the most recent one was from christmas last year.... :sarcasm:

Firefighter/EMT. Nothing like getting paid for what you know and not what you do. I sit at a station for 12 hours a day, 4 days a week watching tv, working out, playing with 400,000 trucks, run an occasional call, fight a little fire, take an old person to the hospital. Its awesome. I'm a county employee, great benefits, 20 year retirement. What counties do you live in or around?

live in dade county. not all that familiar w/ my surroundings as most of my life w/ a car has been building it and not driving it but i know broward county is the nearest county to dade (that i know of)

well (IMO) i am a semi-sane individual... you kinda learn to deal with lifes little curve balls as you get older. Never really been prone to violence. I bark more than I bite. The learning to laugh at everything is something I've been working on altho at times its not always easy. Was in JROTC in high school... wanted a military life but yeah, got shot down so I moved on. Unless you happen to know a recruiter here in the miami area that would be willing to overlook certain things that option is kinda out. :3d_frown:

GO TO SCHOOL.. DABBLE IN EVERYTHING.. FIND OUT WHAT YOU LIKE AND MAJOR IN THAT.. YOU CAN GET ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF GRANTS THAT WILL HELP YOU PAY FOR SCHOOL.. JUST FILL OUT YOUR FASFA, AND GO FROM THERE.. ITS FREE..

The only way you're ever going to get ahead is if you get a full education.. Trust me, I know.. I am 26 and going back to school to finish my degree myself..

I beg to differ....

I OWN everything I have outright while there are so many unemployed people with degrees that have NOTHING...

^^Have to agree.

SA - What about trades people?

Several friends of mine from high school left in year 10, learned their trade, and now own their own business, home and multiple cars. They also only work 7am-3pm 5 days a week.

A degree does not automatically make you successful or prosperous.

Nice to know I'm not alone in the what the fuck am I gonna do with my life world. I just spent the last 2 hours looking over jobs and applying to a few but most sound completely awful or pay shit. I'm doing online a online business degree next semester but to be honest besides opening an arcade I don't have any ideas... and arcades = poor.

Sigh. I just want one decent job that I can be happy with.

If the Supra is affecting your quality of life, your goals are all sorts of fucked up.

and what am i expected to do? give up these nearly 4 years of spending money on it and just let it all go to waste? I atleast have to get it reliable wich is my current situation with it. I have no place to store it, no other form of transportation... Its one of those, w/ the money i spend on another car i fix mine... Been in this dilema for the past few years. The car has been my main goal. Im sure im mistaken but this whole build was ontop of a few other things, a way of proving to myself that whatever i set my mind to i can accomplish but dammit its kicking my ass!

I spent years going to school and working dead end jobs before I found a career I love. I ended up being a mechanic. The pays is not that great to start out but as you receive more training and achieve promotions your pay goes up. One of life's challenges is to find what is right for you. It is better to have a job that you love and pays low than to have a job you hate with a passion that pays well.

Dade county has a very professional, well recognized Fire Dept. http://www.miamidade.gov/MDFR/
Theres all sorts of job in that "industry" dispatchers, logistics specialists... check out the link see if its something you could get into. Fire Depts. routinely take people with no experience and teach you everything you need to know. I had no experience before I got hired. Thats what the Academy is for.

seriously, i could never be a fireman.
its fine 99% of the time, im sure.
but when you go somewhere, and its all the way on fire.
Fuck that, I'm too selfish to save someone else over myself. If thats what you do, your awesome and get much respect from me.

to the OP
Are you mechanically inclined?
Look around for apprenticeships, electrical, plumbing, welding-
Business minded? Definitely go back to school, get a degree in business management or something that has broad application ( avoid accounting )

whatever you do, just make sure you do your best at it, everyday
good luck

im mechanically inclined, yes. also was buisness minded... originally had thought of opening a shop to modify cars. heh, had idea's of incorporating a track behind shop grounds as a sort of test and tune area or maybe to be rented out for different driving events. But the more I think of it, the way our economy is going, this whole custom car thing is becomming more of a luxury and im unsure as to how much movement there will be as far as cash flow is concerned. that and after a bit over a hear working as a technician, im kinda getting tired of destroying my hands and arms working on other peoples cars. Kinda been straying away from the shop idea.

This i can help you with when you wake up every morning do and many push-ups as you can with good form, repeat with sit-ups. then do your normal morning rutin and just before you have your morning shower(if you do, as alot of people i know have them before bed) do the samething(althought if you eat breakfast go easy on the sit-ups.) then try to get to the gym as often as possible, if not go for a light jog for a mile or 2. its amazing how much the little bit of PT can help.

PT....GOOD FOR YOU... GOOD FOR ME... I was in the military but recently separated. I use to have pretty bad dyslexia but have eben to psychologist and other counseling and have improved greatly. I plan on trying to re enlist soon. seeing as i cannot find a career either. however I am still looking into other careers as i do not want to go back to the military with second thoughts or doubts and want to be fully committed.

Physical fitness is very important. Especially cardio. The number one killer of firefighters is cardiac related, mostly because they are out of shape, go fight a fire and overexert themselves. Fighting fire is the hardest work you'll ever do, but you only do it for about 10-15 minutes once in a blue moon.
Surf around on the website I linked. Here's a list of FAQs http://www.miamidade.gov/mdfr/FAQ-h...lready a firefighter with another department?

Something else you should do if you are really interested is go to a fire station. They are county buildings and as long you aren't there during meal time (firefighters take eating very seriously) the firefighters will be happy to talk to you and answer most questions you might have.

yeah, theres a station not too far from my house. was thinking that already but i was gonna jump the gun and ask how to apply. I have to see when I get the chance. Work a 7:30-5 and dont have a working car (damn rod knock!) Then again I really should develope a work out routine. I am soooooooooo out of shape. No weight problem... on the contrary, I dont eat much wich I know is also not good. My current life style isn't suited for the fire fighter life altho I'd love to change it. That on the other hand will be the challenge.

I rarely worked out before the academy. I did some stuff to get in shape for the CPAT but nothing more than running about 3-4 miles a week. I lost about 22lbs in the academy where we PT'd 4 days a week plus all the training. My cardio improved tremendously during the 6months in the academy. After I graduated I put all the weight back on, but now I have more muscle and try and maintain the cardio.
The job definitely not for everyone. I, personally, don't think I could do anything else. My dad is a firefighter/paramedic, so I had some exposure to it before actually getting the job but I never was a volunteer. It helps if you're a calm, laid back person. I know some pretty high strung guys that are good firefighters but, most of us are pretty laid back and easy going. Just as long as you can function in a high stress situation.
