Im looking for career ideas. Im 24, only have a high school diploma, suck at math (can barely multiply and divide :nono:), Am still living at home w/ my mom and sister, Have no money because I keep sinking it all into my only car (damn supra!). Life is turning out to be a real disapointment.

I've been concidering going to school again to try to make something of myself... Was wondering if anyone knew of a decent career choise that didn't require much math, but still made a decent amount of money. A co-worker had sudgested Medical Coding... tho im unsure. Figured I'd throw the topic out there and see what recommendations i get. :1zhelp:

My only advice is find something you like to do and people want/need then make that a career.

I was expelled from school in year 9, 15 years old and have no regrets how my life turned out.

I did MANY different jobs starting low in the food chain, no job was beneath me as long as they paid me a wage and I could learn.

I worked my way up using them as paid training and would sponge information from anyone willing to educate me.

There were a lot of lean times due to the car obsession but these days life is very comfortable and I'm cruising along enjoying myself.

Try working in a dealership parts dept. or service dept. as an advisor. I have done both and have many years in parts. I am also 24 and the lowest I've made so far is this year @ 37k and the year isn't yet finished.
Has great potential and you can learn a thing or 2. I've worked With Toyota, lexus, nissan, infiniti, and kia. Although Toy/lex Nis/inf are making the most money.

But it also depends on location and area economy. In a larger city I'm sure I could easily make between 50k-100k yearly. While you're doing that goto school.

I too suck at math and as soon as I find sometime I will be getting back into school hopefully for the spring semester get some credits under the belt then join the military.

None of your fucking business
You should have thought of this 6 years ago... Find a trade (non union) start at the bottom, work your ass off, learn, don't complain, move up, post pics of sister. Or become a full time student.

This.

No point having a job making 100K a year and hating it.

You'll find that if you do something you love, you will be good at it, and you will move through the ranks with ease :)

I've told SOOO many college friends/people that, they going into something and can't stand it, and doing it cause the money is good...well if you work it for 30-40 years the money won't matter.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!

Money, whilst it may make things easier, does NOT equal happiness.

If you can't see yourself doing a job for the next 40 years, DO NOT pursue it as a career.

If you still live at home go back to school. Go to school for something that you enjoy doing now, but make sure it's something you can make a decent living at.

Trust me, I hate my job(I am glad to have 1 though), but have two kids, a wife, car payments and a house payment. So I have to keep going until I can find something better. I went to a two year school got a degree that is useless. I should've been smarter. I'm also 24 and there are a lot of things I should've done differently.
So, go to school why you have the time.

point taken, but thinking about what i should have done 6 years ago isn't going to help the now situation.

Im currently working at Metro Ford Lincoln Mercury... Im a tech. No certifications and I dont want to spend money to persue a career in wich i will destroy my hands, for a career that (atleast at my dealership) doesn't seem to really have all that much cash flow. Agree'd it depends on where your situated and id imagine the kind of cars sold or maintained but yeah... no. Only doing this because I have some experiance w/ cars.

well I know what I want to do... Its just at the moment, I need money to be able to do so. I need the regular 9-5... I'd love to be a professional driver. Heh, Pro Drifter to be more exact. But I've come to the realization that to become sponsored, I need a car worth competing in. Would be nice to get the MA70 into the pro drift scene (if it isn't already) but that hasn't been determined yet. I've come to the conclusion that I need a good paying job in order to make the kind of money I need to finish and maintain a track car till my skills improve to the level where I might be offered a sponsorship. If that dream never takes off the ground, I have a good paying job to fall back on while I continue the privateer route on the drift career.

Yeah, Im still living at home but things at the moment aren't financially stable here. Parents got a divorced a few years ago and my mom (whom i currently reside with) got left w/ the short end of the stick.

Military.
Free training ,Housing, Med and Dent, Money for school. Home loans . You could be retired out at 44 and still have plenty of time to work and get another pension. IIRC they will put you thru college for ..Nursing and you would get a commision (officer).

I know it is wartime, but you can get alot of good shit from it. My buddy was in the navy for 6 years and when he got out He got a job at Boeing painting planes and started at 22 an hour. with just his experience for the Navy.
My wife is an RN and makes 37.50 an Hour
I am in school at 37 to be an Chemical Dependency CPounsler anwill start at 26.00 an Hour the day I am out of school and licensed.
But reguardless you really should go to school.

On a serious note do something you love, don't get a job based only on pay.

I tried the military when i was 18 i think. Got rejected at the recuiting office because im Bi-Polar and ADHD. Recruiter said i might flip and shoot up the whole barracks. I personally think that the military woulda been one of the best things for me but apparently the recruiter didn't share my feeligns.

I didn't say become a Tech. I went that route when things got slow I needed a solid paycheck. Then moved to parts. Had previous parts experience during summer jobs so that helped.

Being a tech can make you some damn good money but you'll be beat at the end of the road like a construction worker..

Get a parts/service advisor job. Sit behind a desk making decent money. I've almost got all of my debt's paid off. Just under $450.00 left and all my cars are paid off. Just got rent, utilities, and cell phone.

If you can get into a different dealer get into the imports. I've learned people take care of their toyota's and lexus's more so than nissan's and some infiniti's and most an other domestic vehicle.

The big american dealers are slow right now. It'll pick up. Just do it to get ya by and get into school man. A job like that starting off at 35k yearly at the least is pretty decent.

Try a different recruiter.... and don't mention those things.

If it isn't in any medical records, you don't have it ;)

Had experiance working at PepBoys selling parts. I've heard from other techs that Ford pays better (probably labor wize) than the other makes. Possibly as far as waranty stuff. Then again that might just be as far as the Tech part is concerned.

Firefighter/EMT. Nothing like getting paid for what you know and not what you do. I sit at a station for 12 hours a day, 4 days a week watching tv, working out, playing with 400,000 trucks, run an occasional call, fight a little fire, take an old person to the hospital. Its awesome. I'm a county employee, great benefits, 20 year retirement. What counties do you live in or around?
