Hey guys!

So Dustin and I have been tinkering with the idea of making a drift car this summer for shits and giggles.

The car is a 1971 142s Volvo. Car has a 4cyl 2.0l b20 motor and we want to swap it out with something newer. Fabrication isn't an issue. But I want to take a poll on what you guys think should go in.

Right now Dustin and I have agreed on a 3sgte adapted to a w58. This can be done quite cheaply, but I'd love opinions.

Here is the donor:

Here is what I want it to look like:

Prob will keep it stock, with possibly a 57trim ct26 that I will make. Only looking for 300rwhp, 400rwhp max.

Found a place that does suspension for these cars. They can do race spec stuff. Mainly for road racing. Emailed they guy and I need to give him specs of what I want.

Not too sure.

I'm going to do
Race springs
Bilstein shocks
Poly bushings
And possibly a sway bar.

Nice thing is the rear en in this Volvo is a Dana 30 rear end. So I have options, including an LSD.

If anyone has any info on what I should do that would be great!!!

Agreed plus they are alot more weight which would mean bigger springs and also they run hotter and need a bigger radiator that might not fit. The Brake booster on the car sits out 2 feet from the firewall (WTF??) and is making it hard for finding a narrow enough motor. The 3s has the intake on the passenger side when mounted in the car which makes it for a nicer fitment we hope. We already have a bare motor that we are looking at that had a spun bearing and will be rebuilding. The motor will need custom manifolds regardless so we are not worried about the missing ones when buying this motor. Albert wheres the sneak peek pics of the herra frush!!

3sgte is prob what were gonna with. Nice powerful 4cyl. Nice thing is if you take a 22rr bellhousing, it will bolt up to the W58.

I'm thinking 1000lbs springs up front

Took out the driveshaft last night.
The exhaust is all one piece, so I'm gonna chop it out.

Motor mounts and tranny mounts are out, hopefully I'll pull the motor soon.

Since when did Billy grow a beard? Sigh... they grow up so quickly. :p

Engine wise, I'd go with a 3s variant for one of these. Their BEAMS motors make heathy HP, but they're kinda expensive when I was shopping. Could always go Miata engine too, they love boost, and are cheap to boot.

I got a 3sgte motor with block, head, accs, harness and ecu for $460 local. Spun rod bearing. Easy fix.

Got the 22re bellhousing from Weston for free. And picking up a w58 for $130 bucks.

Not bad IMO. Obviously have to rebuild it, no biggie

Well there you go then... I've actually considered throwing a 3s in the Mk2 if/when the 6m goes kaput on me. :)

Found a place in oregon that sells tons of stuff for this car.

IPD USA.

So I'm going to order:
Sway bar kit (front & rear)
New endlinks with poly bushings
Front poly kit for upper/lower arms
Poly kit for steering
Poly kit for idler arms
New tie rods
New tie rod ends
New ball joints
Brake rebuild kit
New rotors and pads
Bilstein shocks
7" 1000lbs front springs

Then ill buy all the bushings/shocks/springs for the rear of the car.

Learn throttle control. Learn it REALLY well. My experience in getting short wheel base cars sideways (80 Corolla, 00 Miata) is that you have fairly low tolerances for error. Learn to work your pedals well before anything, then start tuning the suspension and alignment. ;)
