What's your turbo size, and max boost your run?

I run a fully built engine with standalone on a full SP71GTQ .81AR turbo kit (full tubular hearders) with a HKS GT 60mm wastegate. All I can tell you is that even without tunning it was stupid. The turbo came online much faster than I though for such a masive unit. Running 285/35/18's the car...

Iowa Supras!!! whered you guys go?

I am in Des Moines (Well Johnston actually). My red one with the fully built engine and SP71gtq engine caught fire 2 years ago. I have a new 92 grey hardtop that is about to get the transplant though. I have been sitting on that project for about a year and half. I think I am finally motivated...

You should be fine, that is what I run, I have 285's though and get a little rubbing once in a while on the back. Running a 275 likly would have solved that problem with that offset.

    Alternative 5-speed?

I am not seeing the taller first gear as a bad thing, with the nutty torque we make when modified, I think that might be an advantage actually.

    Hoodpins + Stupidity

You are bang on, Halon was one of the most effective fire suppresants around. I saw guys shoot it through a crack of a hoodline and drop a good engine fire before I got off the firetruck one day. We would have used at least 100~150 gallons of water.

Your right about halon for eletrical, but what I was talking about was that the halon is actually banded now, clean air act of 1994 I think due to halon being a CFC. There is an newer, enviro product out there... damn what the hell is it. And yeah, dry chem is a mess, and crappy to breath...

cylinder head porting theories... and such

I hear that theory alot about keeping the exhaust side smaller for faster velocities, but when you are under boost and cramming in as much air as we can on big turbos that seems to be counter intuative. I think you would be best to focus on smothing out the outflow to reduce turbulance while...

There are many systems out there, I will have one of those installed one day, you basically install the storage tank, a firing pull pin mechanism and some lines to various shooting points in the bay. Should be pretty simple, I have seen it on some really built up muscle cars around here. Only...

    T-88h and the mk3 supra

No doubt I am, that sounds right to me. Your other comment - 500+ - Yeah, wheel spin city unless you do alot of highway runs, even my 285's sping like crazy through most gears. However I don't think the problem for most people is the wheel spin, its just how quick you come to the end of the...

I swear I had one of the track guys mention it once when I was first starting out, I am not sure if it was track requirement or if perhaps I totally misunderstood. Anybody know for sure the answer to this?

Well I guess I am a ricer then.... My car has been called alot of things, you're the first to say rice. I guess all the domestic guys are ricers too with there old muscle cars. You might want to check many local track requirements, many of them will require pins for cars within certian times...

    T-88h and the mk3 supra

Unless I am mistaken the Greddy 88 is actualy a t-66 or something, it is not a true t-88. Lag is always overrated by those that have not run a big turbo yet. My sp71gtq came online fast as sh*t and was boosting to the moon by 4000 rpm, once the boost started to come online, late 37xx rpm it...

No harm taken You catalyst statement is correct, you would need temps around 1200 deg if I remember right to flash a hose. What happened was the temp degraded the host (new hose and we are talking about 40 hrs on the engine) and the hoseline separated and then shot hot collant onto the turbo...

    Hoodpins + Stupidity

LoL, I have a set of Mechanix M16 nomex gloves, the same that they use in F1 and nascar now in the glove box as well. Once this new engine is all in, I think I am seriously going to look in a fire supression system for the engine bay.

Rakkasan For the record about your comment concerning check the hoses to prevent the fire... I likely had more money in hoses than most people have in there entire car on this board. I am a maintence freak and I am blessed with the ability to play (or pay out)like out big MK4 brothers. Do...

    Hoodpins + Stupidity

The hood pins come into play in that I was unable to open the hood via the latch as a coolant hose had also let loose, there was WAY to much heat. I would have been able to pull the pins and get the hood up enough to hit the base of the fire and save the car. It is also very common during a...

I guess I am going to be rice putting my hoodpin on my Supra... For all you guys that like to discount the validity of such things, I lost my $30g + supra because it did not have hood pins in a fire. My new car has already gone way to long without them. Chris Jennings 92 Hardtop...
