I was approached by somebody at work with a relative who owns a 92 Cressida with a BHG in otherwise great shape, and looking to dump it cheap. I took a quick look at it (they were not there), and the body was in great shape with no rust and good paint, and interior was in amazing condition. This thing has been out in the weather for the past half a year, but prior to that was def garage kept and loved. Power everything, and it supposedly all works.

I haven't had a chance to look under the hood yet, but I was told they haven't run it since diagnosing the BHG, so hopefully no rod knock. Best case senario would mean a tear down, and a run of the mill HG change out and a little machine shop work on the head. I could throw in a water pump and timing belt while I was at it if it would help the sale. Worst case is that there is rod knock, and then I'm stuck. I've never replaced bearings before, but would be willing to give it a go with a little help. Or I could swap in a new used 7MGE and be done with it.

I'm pretty sure I can get this car for $750, maybe cheaper. KBB lists it at around $2950, and Autotrader seems to support this, but you never know how long the cars have been on the market or what they actually sold for. So does it sound like it would be worth the ordeal? What would it go for and what would the demand be like? A little profit would really help me support my Supra habit.

I flip a couple three cars a year and I dont do it unless I can make a grand. You most likely wont get book value when you sell it. I usually sell for 500 or more under. So lets say you get $2200-2400!!! And you buy it for $500!!! After all is said and done can you make a grand for your time and labor?????? I would go Jdm it would be cheepest but thats $800 after all is said and done. So now your at $$$1300-1400. Now if the car needs nothing else I would do it. Just make sure you know what your getting, little problems can add up and really kill your profit. Thats my two cents and good luck!!!!!

So how do you get the BEST JDM? My Supra had a very recent JDM swap and I ended up tackling a BHG within a month of owning it. Is it good enough to find an Ebay vendor who claims full compression and leak down testing?

It does seem like the fastest way to get the job done, but doesn't do much good if you go to start it and there's rod knock and coolant puke on the driveway after the first test drive...

Jon, if I pass on it I will def call you and give you the details.
