The following proof states that 2 = 1

-2 = -2
4 - 6 = 1 - 3
4 - 6 + 9/4 = 1 - 3 + 9/4
(2 - 3/2)^2 = (1 - 3/2)^2
2 - 3/2 = 1 - 3/2
2 = 1

Tell me why this is false. :)

Assuming that the (2 - 3/2)2 is supposed to be (2 - 3/2)^2 ?

The reason is the sqrt of ()^2 is not (), it's +-().

So, if (2 - 3/2)2 = (1 - 3/2)2, then

(2 - 3/2) != (1 - 3/2), what happens is +-(2 - 3/2) = +-(1 - 3/2)

So again, the mistake is going from one equation to another.
