whats the best way to take out the heart of the beast??

I'm going to acquire another mk3 and pretty much do a swap, yes n/a auto to another n/a auto... no $ to do anything fancy..... anyways, so i not to have to pay a shop extra, I wanted to (TRY) take out the engine and tranny out of the mk3 I'm going to be stripping. save some $ by doing it myself. whats the best way to go about this, tranny and engine together?? seperate them?? through the top???? through the bottom??? let me know homies.... anyone close to Miami wanna give me a hand????:biglaugh:

There's no reason to make a new thread to ask a question that has already been answered. Other annoying things about your post: Why are you using the angry icon? Title doesn't need to be in all CAPS. Too many ....'s and ????'s. You also need to work on your grammar.

On topic, remove the head first so youll have more room to lift the engine. Everytime I try and leave the head and trans on I end up messing the firewall up. With the head off everything comes out really easy.

Yep.

I put 4 head bolts back into the block and hoist it using those.

Nice answer Yellow. I knew he would get one good answer, although I'm not blaming Topher and Swaq. That's a really easy question to search for. I don't think it is a good idea for him to take his own motor out if he doesn't know if it should come through the top or the bottom though. No offense Alex, but you may want to do some reading on here before you tackle a job like that. Good luck either way...............lol

How the hell did u hoist it by the bolts? Put the bolts thru the chain and then screw them back in? Thats the only thing I can come up with.

My hoist has little L shaped clips with holes in them that the bolts can go through.


Another way to save some time is to undo the wiring harness from behind the glove box and push it out through the firewall. Its faster then unplugging everything individually for me at least.
