What unnecessary vacuum-powered components can be taken off a 7MGE engine, and how??

i am trying to diagnose an exhaust leak, and think its somewhere in my egr system. i want to disable the egr, and also remove what i can from the mess of vacuum lines off this engine.

so what can go and what has to stay, and what gets re-routed??

i am going to post a pic tomorrow of what i have so far and maybe someone can give me some pointers.

thanks

Maybe the leak can be the EGR cooler gasket(on the back of the cylinder head). If I were you I would just fix the gasket/s(or where you leak is) and leave the EGR on. I wanted to remove my EGR as well but it lowers the combustion temps and its their for a reason. I heard that If you do remove the EGR system then run a higher grade gas like 92.

that makes a lot of sense, that the egr is there for a reason, thanks... maybe i'll fix the gasket which HAS to be a PITA from looking at it.

If it is the EGR cooler gasket, it will be a pain with the motor in place. I removed my EGR valve and related compoments but have left the cooler in place. I don't know if that is the right thing to do? To remove the EGR valve you have to have some block off plates.

That egr plate isn't to bad. I had to do mine recently. Use a short 12mm(I think) socket and 1/4" drive ratchet. You can remove the bolts that attach the trans. mount to the cross member, and jack the back of the trans. up to give you more room between the head and firewall.
The real PITA is getting the gasket pieces off the head. Need a good scraper, I use a 1" wide putty knife, works well. If you're gonna put a new gasket in, and not just silicone it(like I did), glue the gasket to the plate, and make sure its set securely before you try to install it. Good luck....

Rather than removing the egr completely, try removing it, cleaning it and the intake ports, and then reinstalling it.

thanks for the tips. i'll def try jacking up the trans, that should make it a lot easier.
