weird electrical bug... related to fuel delivery

a few days ago i was driving around and the car started acting like i was hitting fuel cut. i was like what the hell. a few miles later the car became undriveable. whenever i would try to get going from a stop it would bog down and the engine would die.

1: the circuit opening relay is clicking
2: i know the relay is good, i bought a new one and still clicks
3: it doesn't click when i am sitting. when i start driving it clicks

now i'm not sure, but i believe there is a problem when the fuel pump relay switches from 9v to 12v. when you're just sitting there it's operating on 9v. when you demand power it switches to 12v, this is where i am having troubles.

i'm gonna try accelerating very slowly, as to not make it switch to 12v and that would at least give me a new area to check. the fuel pump relay, resistor pack, the fuel pump or the wiring on the 12v side, there may be a short that doesn't affect the electrical system until switched to.

anybody out there good with electrical systems please help

thanks
niel

ok so my theory about it clicking only when driving went out the window. i went back out and started it up, clicking like crazy. it got so bad i couldn't drive the car. the engine would die as soon as i started it.

so i popped the hood and made sure all the plugs on the fuel pump relay and resistor wer connected firmly. i hit the top of the relay a bit.

now it started up fine, no more clicking. so it could've been just a loose plug, i don't know.

now hopefully i can get my $60 back for the relay
