Paul wants to be considered a boxer more than his next breath. And the former Disney star and YouTuber is making a pretty decent fist of it, too, his most recent win against former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson making plenty sit up and take note. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has said the Problem Child deserves a world ranking if he beats Chavez Jr and such is Paul's pulling power a cruiserweight world title fight isn't out of the question.

Chavez Jr, though, will be desperate to win. The son of three-weight former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, the 39-year-old brings a wealth of experience to go with the family name. Junior also held the WBC world middleweight title between 2011 and 2012, has good hand speed and a solid defense. Frustrate Paul and there will be openings for him.

It's Paul's (11-1) first fight since beating Mike Tyson in November in a contest that brought in record viewing numbers for Netflix. The Problem Child is on a five-fight win streak. Paul was close to fighting Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis before circumstances led to both fights getting nixed.

There were rumors that a fight against Chavez (55-6-1) had been in the works for years. Paul believes now is the right time to clash against the son of a legend and hopes, despite professional and personal setbacks, Chavez gives his all on fight night.

I don't want any excuses. When I beat this man, all the boxing media, like you always do, are going to discredit it. I'm going to expose and embarrass him, Paul said. He's the embarrassment of Mexico. Mexico doesn't even claim him, and he's going to get exposed on June 28.

They say he's training hard. They say this is the most focused he's ever been. Good. As he should be. People don't realize how good I actually am, and when he feels those first few punches, he's going to want to quit and go back to his stool.

Chavez is a former WBC middleweight champion. The son of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. has gone 4-3 since losing against Canelo in 2017, but his last fight, last July, was his first in three years. The 39-year-old recently participated in a residential treatment program after being arrested on felony gun possession charges.

Jake is crazy. I think he's overrated. He hasn't fought anybody in his life, Chavez said. On June 28th, he's going to see what's up… Mike Tyson wasn't even a fighter. He doesn't know what he's going to see or what to expect because he's never seen it before. In boxing, you learn step by step, and he's missing many.

Is Jake Paul about to face his toughest challenger to date? Entering the ring with a 54-6 record, Chávez Jr. has gone toe to toe with the best in the world (Canelo Álvarez and Sergio Martínez, to name a few), but he also lost to Anderson Silva in 2021, an opponent Paul defeated in 2022. Julio, who last defeated Uriah Hall in 2024, is currently a 4-1 underdog on DraftKings.

The Problem Child (11-1) returns to the ring after his infamous win over Mike Tyson in what boiled down to a buzzy exhibition fight. If Paul can score a victory over Chávez Jr, a high-profile bout with Tank Davis or Canelo Álvarez could be in his future. Time will tell.

Chavez held the WBC middleweight title from June 2011 to September 2012. The son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., Chavez never Lived up to his father's legacy and mixed drug test and weight issues with otherwise inconsistent in-ring results.

Paul has made a career of fighting faded athletes, primarily from the world of mixed martial arts, but he is also coming off of a win over 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a fight that did big business but produced little action.

Paul and Chavez share one common opponent, with Chavez losing a split decision to UFC legend Anderson Silva and Paul taking a clear unanimous decision win roughly one year later.

‘The Problem Child’ is back in the ring for the first time since his eight-round decision victory over heavyweight legend Mike Tyson on Netflix in November, a damp squib of a contest that never came close to meeting its significant hype as former YouTube star Paul won at a canter against an opponent more than 30 years his senior.

The much-hyped and delayed stadium spectacle received plenty of criticism in its aftermath, though was watched by around 60 million households worldwide and reportedly netted Paul a cool $40m.

His choice of opponents has once again been in the spotlight since, with arch-rival Tommy Fury - to whom he suffered his first and only loss to date - and the little-known pair of Andre August and Ryan Bourland still the only active boxers that Paul has faced during his 12-fight professional career so far, to go along with ex-UFC fighters like Mike Perry, Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren, plus former basketball player Nate Robinson and YouTuber AnEsonGib.d sfadsads

Paul appears to have tried to find something of a middle ground in a 10-round cruiserweight battle against Chavez Jr, the former WBC middleweight world champion and son of iconic Mexican former three-weight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Now 39, the Mexican is still fighting, though two of his last three bouts have come against MMA fighters in Uriah Hall and Anderson Silva. He last fought a fully-fledged boxer in December 2021, outpointing Peru’s David Zegarra over 10 rounds.
