Hey guys,

So I've been driving the car after the rebuild. But I have a very loud sound coming from the transmission when ever in gear. I'm gonna try my best to describe it and hopefully have a video up by tomm. Basically, the sound happens in all gears and is loudest at low revs. Every time i accelerate it feels as if the rpms are clunky. Im not sure if that explains anything, but i get loud clunks that get faster as rpm goes up. So something like cluk cluk cluk cluk (shift up) cluk cluk cluk (shift up). Now im thinking it could be pilot bearing, a badly installed clutch, drive shaft, diff, Maybe even the transmission itself. Its driving me crazy. Now what things do i need to check to start eliminating possible sources?

I can tell you the car pulls nicely. The transmission is smooth. All gears engage and disengage with minimal problems. Ohh and could low gear oil cause this sound?

As always i appreciate all input.

Thanks guys

Check your tranny oil immediately. If it's low now, you have a good chance of owning a broken tranny. Mine was run without oil for a few hundred miles at least. (Previous Owner) When I drained the oil, maybe 1/4 a quart came out. :( I caught it early and had it fully rebuilt, so I now own a basicaly brand new W58. It's silky smooth. :)

You may luck out and the sound is coming from the clutch, but clunking sounds in every gear could mean you have a chipped, pitted, broken gear tooth in the tranny, meaning you need a new transmission.

If it makes the noise while idling, maybe you can jack it up and listen from underneath? ...and hope nothing blows up in your face...
