I went for my inspection today and they failed me, one of the reasons my switch.

The turn signal/headlight lever is fine, but the plastic part is loose or broken and doesn't turn the headlights on sometimes, you have to play with it, turning it in order for the lights to turn on.
The turn signals and brights work flawlessly, its just the turning part for the headlights that is messed up.

How do I go about fixing it? Can I get a "new" plastic piece from junkyard/SM or do I need a whole new steering column to fix it?

ALSO, while we are on the topic of LIGHTS the 2 lights below the orange turn signal, are they fog lights or what are they for? Both of mine don't work. The guy at the inspection stupidly thought they were turn signal lights and failed them for me...

Thanks in advance!

Is that supra towing a trailer LOL.

Please tell me that you've towed a trailer with your supra before. You haven't lived until you've went out into the great outdoors pulling a 20' camper. Come on Yellow, get outside a little more often................;)

Canadian, I'm sorry but my switch on my donor car is messed up the same way. I checked it and it works, but it won't click. It turns real easy and would not stay turned one way. If it had worked, I would have given it to you. Let me know if there's any other way I can help......GL

mine is messed up too, my right wiper stick is screwed up and it doesnt click anymore. i was clicking it back and forth and all of a sudden the plastic to the left of the part you turn on the tip is no longer solid and spins as well now...

so now instead of a solid click the rightmost two sections turn together unless i hold the black plastic that shouldn't turn...then it works like normal. everything still works but i have to guess where the switch is and it sucks because off is right next to a wiping function and a spraying function so i have to listen for the pump or hear the wipers to fix it...or turn of the car and hold the clicker so i can click it back to "off" it stinks.

can you dissasemble the right stick? i looked at it and it looks impossible..unless theres some way to remove the button to reveal a screw...i dont see how you can fix it :(

^yeah that is what I would end up doing. They aren't that bad to swap out, just have to pull the steering wheel off and remove some trim to get to where it plugs in at under the dash. Make sure you get one that is specific to the year of your car (86.5-88, 89+ w/o airbag, 89+ airbag) to avoid complications.

Are the connectors/wiring different for the different years of the MKIII or why do I need year specific? There is a supra at the auto wreckers, its an 89T so I can't use it, can I?

Thanks, I'm in the middle of taking the steering wheel off. I can't rent a puller (I need a deposit, they wouldn't take less than 30, all I had was $10) So I may have to make one...

What year is your car? You are correct the connectors and wiring are different due to different things moving around (cruise control for example.) It is possible to rewire and change things around (Jeff Lange did it) but to make it easy on yourself it would be best to find one that matches what you already have.

Where is the connector for the wires so I can take this thing off the car? It's the only thing holding me back now! I traced it down under the dash and can't find anything. Anyone know?

I think the only thing that is different is the steering wheel which shouldn't make a difference when changing the signal assembly.

When I get mine off my car I will take it to the junkyard and compare it to the one there. Then I will know.

Thanks

When I put an 89 steering wheel on my 88 I swapped to an 89 combo switch. The connectors for the steering wheel are different. You could cut the connectors off and switch them around to make it work but I chose to use the 89 combo switch so I wouldn't have to cut anything. If your car has an airbag I have no personal experience with that crap.

The big plug at the end of the combo switch harness is underneath the dash under that piece of trim that has the "crotch vent" on it. If you take that piece of trim off you should be able to see where it plugs in. I had to snake my arm up in there to get to it.

I pulled off two connectors from the back of it (facing the front of the car) but the harness still won't pull out. Is there something I am missing? I will keep trying I suppose.
Thanks
