trans compatability

would a w55 bolt up to a 7m?
i'm trying to source parts for a manual conversion on my 86 3.0 turbo currently with auto trans and just looking for compatibility info on different boxes

A W58 will, with the proper bellhousing, plus they are easily found/sourced. Not quite as tough as an R154, but depending on how much you plan on doing to the car, it should hold up alright for a while.

Not even sure what a W55 is, from a pickup?

Yes, a W55 will go straight in the same as a W58 - they are near enough to identical externally except for shifter positions.

However, you still need a bellhousing from a 'M' W58 box.

So I know that this is an old thread, I'm in the search for an R154 and since everyone wants like $1000 for it I figured id ask if the R151 works on the 7m-gte. Also does the R151 work on a 2j swap since thats what I'm going to need it for.
