Timing unsetting itself?

Have had this happen on several occasions.

The engine has begun to screw up its own timing without anyone actually touching the CPS or anything. Pretty sure it is doing this after getting driven relatively hard.

Any help?

Try this test:
- Pull the EFI fuse
- Set the motor at near TDC...damper index in the "15-10" range
- Remove the #1 spark plug
- Get a small diameter 12" wooded dowel that will easily fit in the spark plug hole...insert it
- Move the damper clockwise to the "zero"...the dowel should get higher.
- Move past "zero"...the dowel should start down

If the dowel does not do the above, one of two things has happened:
The timing belt has jumped a tooth or the rubber in the damper is FUBAR and twisted itself up.

I have the same problem as my friends car the closest i can get to stock timing is 12 degrees I did check the crank and cam timing I pulled the cps 3 times. Should I reset the efi before I had 29 degrees timing now I was able to get it to 12?
