Thoughts and ideas on an intake.

I'm about to replace the section of my intake where it goes from the tb to the afm. I believe its 2 3/4 inch. I want to get rid of the intake silencer and get something that resist heat a little bit better. There is a line that runs from that same section to somewhere near my lower engine bay...what is it and do I need it?

Since I cant seem to find any 2 3/4 inch piping and I already have some 3 inch laying around. Will there be any gain from the slightly bigger pipe (yes I know it would be nothing noticable) and would I lose any bottom end (also non noticeable)? 2.5 inch instead?

I'm doing my research as you are reading this but any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also I'm gonna paint the piping and yes I will be taking the time to actually prep for the paint. I'm thinking some kind of paint that you paint cooking grills with or maybe some high heat engine paint. Whats your opinion?

?

Power steering idle up. Detects a load on the power steering pump and then increases the idle to compensate. That small hose is the filtered and metered air supply for it. If its working well you can barely notice it.

common mod for the mk2 is to upgrade from the crappy stock plastic/rubber tubing with big silencer to mandrel bent 3 inch piece

you can just weld in some little bungs for the hoses.
and if you really want heat efficiency get some heat wrap tape or intake sock from like jegs or whatever.

Or get it ceramic coated. Looks better than header tape, or the silver intake bags, and works quite well.
