hey everyone
im pretty new here i just got my first mk3 a few months ago and now ive come into a bit of money that i can play with
my goal is to build a balanced mk3
ive read up on the 7mge that came with my car and i have also read up on the 2jz motor that some have swaped in.
im attempting to gain some reliability and power, i was thinking of swaping for the 2jz tt
the reason im thinking of this motor is because its basically all the power i want bone stock which to me = reliability as long as i dont dog it out
i figure that plus a well tuned suspention , im thinking some nice coilovers (id like to drop this car about 2") on some lightweight 8" wide wheels and ill be pretty set
i also plan to do some weekend drifting so im looking to either weld the diff or get a nice lsd
i guess what im asking is what do you guys think of this as a starting point
thanks

as far as reliability is concerned it is up to you. my 7m was running fine and very healthy when i removed and sold it and put in the 2jz.

is this a daily driver?

yes this is my daily
the 7m is running fine and is fun to drive im just thinking it might be easier to swap up while the 7m is still good
i really dont want this car to be down for more than two days at a time if i can help it

do the research about the swap. all of the info is out there and then some. see if you'll have the time needed and dedication to do your project. its no overnight thing thats for sure

HAHA, yeah, it is commonly months to do a swap, plus upwards of 10-15k to build a good 2jz setup w/ 6spd in a MKIII. Many go much beyond this estimate also. You can check out rons car. Most people will just go and buy a MKIV. I might suggest a 1jz, the swaps usually cost around 5-6k and are very reliable also. But it will take similar time. Mine took 5 years of dreaming, and 8 months of building. And mine is nearly stock :) I daily drive mine and love every minute of it!!!

if i had everything i could do the swap in a week... my biggest prob was waiting on parts ;p

it doesnt cost as much as most people think you just have to look and buy your parts in the right places. some parts can be cheaper and some can be more expensive. one thing ive found is toyota parts with a discount can be cheaper than cheap aftermarket parts.. and vice versa. i ALWAYS buy an O ring from toyota, i learned this the hard way.

Yeah, and if you part out your 7m stuff, it gets even cheaper.

yea im very used to getting projects done in about a weekend
but what it usually takes for me to do that is to have everything for the project in hand and at least two contingency plans for when somthing goes quite wrong
im just wondering because ive been researching this day and night for about a week now and have not come up with much save for a really crude idea

basically im going to try and make it as plug and play as humanly possible before i attempt to drop it in
