So, I checked my timing today, because my car has been running like crap. I couldn't believe how off it was, it wasn't even anywhere near the timing numbers. I adjusted to 10 degrees and it is running great. I am still having a very slight miss, and I went to test the coils, because I checked my codes and received:

14 Ignition Signal
Diagnosis
No "IGF" signal to ECU "A" times in succession.
A = 6-8 (7M-GE)
A= 3 (7M-GTE)

Trouble Area
Igniter and ignition coil circuit
Igniter and ignition coil
ECU

The problem now that im having is I am not getting any readings from my voltmeter on any of the coils nor any readings ohming them up either. Also, would a failing coil cause starting issues?

volt meter while you are cranking?

You really need a dwell meter or hook them up to stock and see if you have spark while cranking the engine with the spark plugs out. Requires the EFI fuse be pulled as that will keep the injectors from firing.

No i didn't crank it, from what I was reading the ignition just had to be in the on position, when checking the voltage, right? I know this unit is working, since I was able to check the voltage on my battery.

Also, does anyone know if the 87 (green connector) 7mgte coil packs will work on my 89T, which has the grey connector? Could I swap the wires if the green type can't be used?

The gray style coil pack plug should fit on the green type plug on the engine harness if not then it is just a small harness on the coil pack with 3 plugs on the 3 coils that can be changed.

Did you test for resistance on the coils?

The resistance for whatever reason wasn't giving me any good readings. I am not sure what is going on. I was able to test the resistance of the coil wire and it was within spec. I just bought another coil set, because I looked at the number 1 spark plug wire going to the coil and it looked like the spark was off and on. We will see what happens with the new coils.
